Former military make up a disproportionately high percentage of occupiers, at least here in Seattle. It makes sense: they come home, can't find jobs, and are told it's all their fault for spending the time serving their country instead of building a good corporate resume.

you do realize that even if the person's story is true then it was two people out of tens of thousands who have cycled through occupy boston. is it right to hate cops because a couple of them pepper-sprayed or beat nonviolent protestors? as a percentage of popular that behavior is much more regular

I don't get it. Whoever did it was an idiot; the Coast Guard is the only branch that has a legitimate, honorable peacetime purpose as a main mission (search and rescue + aids to navigation).

There's enough ignorance about the USCG that they probably thought she was a cop. Still, two idiots out of a giant crowd isn't a good reason to hate Occupy. Hell, this might just be a Boston thing and not an NYC thing. From what I've read the NYC people are trying to be nice to cops.

No the coast guard just sit around doing drugs and eating up tax dollars.

The National Guard's main mission is to provide security and disaster relief at home. These days, it's seems like their main mission is to go abroad and shoot dirty Arab terrorists, but cleaning up after hurricanes, distributing medical supplies, and shooting protesters is still technically their primary role.

The Coast Guard isn't part of the military... it's just a branch of the DHS. Just like the TSA, whom I would love to see spit on.

Damn it Jangbones. You're right, I can't just condemn the whole movement over that. I just overreacted and took this personally.

1) I support OWS and have personally participated. In no way do I accept deliberately provoking or showing this kind of disrespect to police or other people in uniform.
