Allowing a living being to live longer in good conditions is a good thing.

If a person who was terminally ill was cut badly, say in the kitchen preparing dinner, I think we'd offer to stitch the wound to keep the person from bleeding to death.

Really, we and all living things are going to die, might as well not live at all according to your logic, right?
