Beavis & Butthead AND a brutal civil war? It's our lucky day!

Ursa_minor - 2011-10-29

Probably some of, if not the most graphic and brutal violence and death I've ever seen. And I'm considering that video of the Russian soldier getting his neck slit. I've seen a lot of that over the years, and this video alone has some of the most sickening and heart wrenching violence I've ever seen.

Jesus christ. About 55 minutes in, after one particular scene, I just had to turn it off. It's important to seem, but a whole hour of it is more than I can stand. As I was typing this, another scene came up that almost made me throw up. I'm done.

Jesus christ, I thought the graphic footage of that kids head getting blown open was terrible, then while I was typing that up, it got exponentially worse.

Fucking christ.

For a totally different kind of horror, check out Shoah. It's nine hours of quiet interviews with people involved with the Holocaust. (mostly survivors, but a couple of guards & rescue folk) It's not at all gruesome, but it does a great job of letting the horror of the Holocaust sink into every pore of your body.

By the way, you're interested, Roger Ebert wrote an excellent piece on Shoah:

Even if you don't usually like Ebert's reviews, that Shoah piece is worth reading.

By the way, *if* you're interested, etc.

Also, stars for the Sierra Lione documentary.

I see no reason to live on.

memedumpster - 2011-10-29

And yeah, I watched the whole thing.

memedumpster - 2011-10-29

FUCK.

I want to share this video with people I know, but I can't. I just can't fucking do it to them.

Ursa_minor - 2011-10-30

I feel the exact same way. As I said, the footage an hour or so in is so shocking and awful that it was burned into my brain for a half hour. I'd close my eyes and see the scene, over and over. I thought I was all jaded I-can-look-at-whatever-and-eat-a-sloppy-joe internet war photographer, but this just made all of the other things I've seen look seem pale in comparison.

A journalist in an interview I heard once said:

"You'd think seeing lots of awful stuff would toughen you up, but it doesn't. Trauma is cumulative. Whatever you see today is piled on top of all the other awful stuff, and at some point, it becomes too much."
