The original book was basically "Some guy found a bunch of tress, and killed them. This is what is going to happen to earth if we chop down too many trees. The End." I commend them for at least attempting to put a plot into all of this, but at the same time I can't help but wince when I see the Lorax doing all of the jokes we expect from a children's movie these days.

Xenocide - 2011-10-28

What bothers me is that the world of the film seems to be getting along perfectly fine without trees. The sad, barren landscape that the book opens on is nowhere to be found.

BHWW - 2011-10-28

Padding's always a problem when adapting children's books, especially ones that run for like, 25-30 or so of pages of mostly illustrations with some words. Just look at the mess that was The Polar Express film.

kingarthur - 2011-10-29

I disagree with Hollywood on their fundamental principle that "EVERYTHING MUST BE A MOVIE. IT ONLY HAS VALIDITY IF IT IS A MOVIE OR TV SHOW". Fuck that. Let a great children's book be a great children's book.

Triggerbaby - 2011-10-28

The Thneed industry employs millions of people. America cannot afford the Lorax's failed policies of environmental overregulation in these times of economic uncertainty. What is more important- American families, or Truffula Trees?

Google The Once-ler!

MC Scared of Bees - 2011-10-30

Five for the trailer, five for you.

The Mothership - 2014-12-06

Yes, stars go here.

Jet Bin Fever - 2011-10-28

It can't be worse than the Cat in the Hat.

Toenails - 2011-10-28

You better knock on some wood real quick.

Screwtape - 2011-10-28

Funny, that's usually my plan right after POE-TV.

memedumpster - 2011-10-28

HA HA HA, the Bar-ba-Loots are still brown people and now they're humorously being falsely blamed for the world's problems!

God I hope this is in 3D.

citrusmirakel - 2011-10-28

I just checked the Wikipedia page and no, this movie will not be available in 3D.

It will be available in IMAX TREE-D!

Stopheles - 2011-10-28

Those are some mighty shitty human-character designs.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2011-10-28

Betty White?

Sold.

FABIO - 2011-10-28

Who would submit a dupe of "Up" this long after...oh, trees, Lorax.

StanleyPain - 2011-10-29

Here I thought they were going to go the "WACKY EDGY" route and get Martin Lawrence or some shit to be the Lorax.

Imagine my surprise when they decided to go the hipster route with Zac Efron and Betty White.. OMG I LOVE GOLDEN GIRLS IRONICALLY TOO

snothouse - 2011-10-29

There is NOBODY more hipster than Zac, all right!

memedumpster - 2011-10-29

I was about to make a comment about him probably smelling all the time like Dr. Seuss assumed all kids smelled, but I realized you weren't talking about Zach Galifianakis, the Queen Breeder Hipster.

dementomstie - 2011-10-29

I thought that the Lorax Cartoon Half Hour Special for this had padding, this is going to be ridiculous for the amount of padding that it has. And I really don't like that they made the Once-ler and his family into people with bodies rather than just gloves. I really liked that they were just gloves in the Lorax Cartoon. 5 stars for evil. This is as bad as I thought it would look from the banner ad I saw for this.

Sanest Man Alive - 2011-11-03

I don't see how this has anything to do with Dr. Seuss, so could you maybe remove that tag?

Sanest Man Alive - 2011-11-04

Crap, didn't mean to make a reply. Ignore the pronoun.

Fox-Pixar Media - 2023-06-23

First film to use the current Universal logo

Spit Spingola - 2011-10-29

I can't tell if I hate this or not I'm too distracted by how much I hate the Polyphonic Spree.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2011-10-30

I've been wondering all week who was responsible for the god awful song playing in this trailer.

Thanks.

Callamon - 2011-10-29

I love golden girls un-ironically.

Callamon - 2011-10-29

I don't want to see the lorax waving around a gun drunk off rum-ham.

spikestoyiu - 2011-10-29

I hate the Golden Girls post-ironically.

cognitivedissonance - 2011-10-29

Polyphonic Spree, I know you know better.

snothouse - 2011-10-29

Maybe don't get a voice actor who sounds like he's 30 to play the voice of a kid.

American Standard - 2011-10-29

Holy Christ that soundtrack.

Timothy A. Bear - 2011-10-29

as with every digitally animated celebrifilm, I think I've already seen it.

Binro the Heretic - 2011-10-29

Like the book, the original Chuck Jones animated Lorax offered no easy answers, it only posed questions. It even went so far as to point out that, while pollution and environmental destruction were bad, people still needed to work and provide for their families. Mainly, it asked "Can't we let people work AND protect the natural world?"

I'm predicting none of that will be present in this film. In the original, the kid decided to grow & nurture a truffula tree out of respect for nature and to help undo the damage man had caused. In this one, he appears to be doing it to impress a girl. That's become the standard message from the popular media: young men only "care" about social issues because they think it will help them get some pussy.

In the original, the story closed with the world still a wasteland and the kid being told it would be a long, hard road to restore it. I'm betting at the end of this one, the entire world will be healed instantly through the power of love. It's a great way to set kids up for bitter disappointment in the future.

joelkazoo - 2011-10-30

This is going to suck.

rainbowcemetery - 2011-10-30

i didn't think this would piss me off as much as it did
