I'm amazed that kids in Britain were protesting tuitions of ,000... These kids are angered that a college would ask for a kid to go 0,000+ in debt for a BA in liberal arts.

simon666 - 2011-11-10 More context: There was a big rally that started earlier in the day with undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty. In anticipation of this rally the Chancellor apparently sent out a letter saying no tents or sleeping bags allowed--24 hour protesting could be held otherwise. The students attempted to erect a few tents and when the police moved in to take them down the students locked arms. The video is the result of that.

As far as I am aware, school was so cheap that families didn't have to spend the 0,000 for school. It was a recent thing to hike up the prices; not a lot of families can afford it now.

When I was in college (where I got a full scholarship), my department chair gave us a speech about how American youth had become complacent since the 70s, and if we knew what was what, we'd be protesting too. This was around 2002 or 3.
