POOL'S CLOSED

Cena_mark - 2011-11-15

Hey I just learned that Zuccotti Park is private property. Go figure.

StanleyPain - 2011-11-15

An NYC court has issued an order that doing this was was blatantly illegal and that the protestors must be allowed back into the park. As of my typing this, the mayor has yet to obey this order, yet is claiming that the raid was for "public safety." (a city commissioner being kicked in the face apparently was necessary for this)

Cena_mark - 2011-11-15

Of course they should be allowed to protest in the park, however, the court also ruled that the tents and generators were not allowed back in. Tents are not covered as freedom of expression.

Horsecock Johnson, M.D. - 2011-11-15

Tents aren't free speech, you say?

http://boingboing.net/2011/10/27/orange-county-city-council-un animous-occupy-tents-are-a-form-of-speech.html

Cena_mark - 2011-11-15

Horsevagina: You're totally right. I was wrong to disagree with the highest law in the land, The Orange County City Council. How short sighted was I? I mean if the Orange County City Council says tents qualify as freedom of speech then it is set in stone.

Konversekid - 2011-11-15

http://occupywallst.org/article/nypd-raiding-liberty-square/

Here's a play by play. Seems like this occupation is being broken up for now. Still I hope that they do continue as they say they will.

Konversekid - 2011-11-15

Here is an alternate leak as this one is down or at least isn't getting a very good feed. http://www.livestream.com/occupyunity

Konversekid - 2011-11-15

And here is a video of the kitchen gassing.

Change - 2011-11-15

Just watched the kitchen volunteers being gassed, and dragged out by their hair.

Udderdude - 2011-11-15

yeah! go back to occupying your mom's basement, babbies :O

support - 2011-11-15

Police are reporting other groups trying to come to the protest and being blocked.

support - 2011-11-15

Listening to the police scanner call for more wagons to deal with other protests rising up in the city. Pretty fucked up CNN, MSNBC, FOX, ETC, no one is covering this.

Cena_mark - 2011-11-15

And ride, ride how we ride
Let's ride, lowride

simon666 - 2011-11-15

Cena, you get bonus points for quoting the Dead Kennedys.

Jet Bin Fever - 2011-11-15

hahaha, I may actually like you Cena!

Cena_mark - 2011-11-15

Of course I like DK. "Gonna Kill kill kill kill Kill the poor:Tonight"

simon666 - 2011-11-15

Cena, now is the time for you to explain how and why you like the liberal and satirical lyrics of Jello Biafra.

Cena_mark - 2011-11-15

I just like the music. I love punk rock and hip hop. I disagree with the likes Jello and Chuck D politically, but they put out some good music.

Cena_mark - 2011-11-16

Rebellion breeds good music. Music supporting the status quo can be rather boring. And rebellion doesn't exactly mean being liberal. Tons of reppers and punk rockers make boring songs with blatantly liberal lyrics. Compare Public Enemy in their prime to your typical liberal back packer. Or compare the rebellious nature of the Clash to the liberal regurgitation of NOFX.
Hank III is one of the best rebels in music right now and he doesn't even talk politics.

cognitivedissonance - 2011-11-15

Hope Bloomberg bought something nice with the blood money.

Jeriko-1 - 2011-11-15

Nice. HUGE DDOS of several sites preceded this. The phone was being ripped out of the wall it seems.

baleen - 2011-11-15

They just come back the next day. Gotta admire the tenacity.

OWS demonstrations are already being planned for Spring. A lot of us on the forums are really worried for the kids down in the tents. It's not horribly safe since they are being asked to be a social safety net for urban homeless.

Cena_mark - 2011-11-15

How dare they stomp on the 1st Amendment like this. 2 Months isn't nearly long enough for a nonstop protest.

Cena_mark - 2011-11-15

Don't destroy the library. Oh lord, those Nazis will be burning all copies of Fast Food Nation in there.

simon666 - 2011-11-15

I know you're just being funny troll guy, but even you must be alarmed at how OWS show the libertarians as the turncoats they are. "Oh they're hippies, I hope the police beat the shit out of them!" "Wait, what? The state wants to restrict which guns I can buy? Tyranny! Revolution!"

fatatty - 2011-11-15

What is your cut off for state sanctioned right to protest?

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2011-11-15

For Cena:

http://teapartyted.tumblr.com/

Not that I expect you to get it, or how it applies to you, but I still try to make a difference.

Cena_mark - 2011-11-15

Simon I do support what the police are doing here. For weeks NYC has kowtowed to the demands of the protesters despite the detriment to the sanitation and safety of the city. They have a right to protest but not a right to squat.
Are tents protected by the First Amendment? I don't think so. The tent is their tool to squat. The courts ruled against squatting in the park.
The protest will continue, but they'll have to do what I do in the Coast Guard. Certain posts must be watched 24/7 and we watch them in 12 hour shifts. The protesters will just have to work out a similar system.

Cena_mark - 2011-11-15

Simon, I acknowlege that some restrictions must be put on guns for the good of the public, but also some restrictions must be put on protests for the good of the public. Vandalism technically is a form of expression. Of course its prohibited for good reason.

Steamboy, What am I supposed to get from that blog? It just looks like a Liberal mocking the Tea Party.

Fatty, don't see it as a cut off for protesting. The OWS freedoms interfere with the freedoms of others. The freedom of OWS to occupy the park interferes with the freedom of others to enjoy the park. The freedom of OWS to play drums interferes with the freedom of others to have a more peaceful environment. Just because Liberals have a noble vision of Protesters and Protesting doesn't mean that the protests are 100% good.
I still argue that this isn't a huge offense to the First Amendment is not stepped on. OWS still has a forum in the Park, they've had 2 months of this very anarchistic style of protest to begin with. They will continue to protest, but they'll have to work harder to do so. Of course "work harder" might be something scary to these guys.

memedumpster - 2011-11-15

Yay, first thing today I get to watch people being beaten by people who should be dragged into the town square, drawn and quartered, and have their heads put on pikes.

Protect and serve, kill a cop.

Doomstein - 2011-11-15

I was hoping to see a bunch of 19 year old college kids in jester outfits smoking bongs. Instead I get a bunch of 30-60 year olds milling about. The media lied to me : (

Binro the Heretic - 2011-11-15

Why do they keep doing these raids late at night under cover of darkness?

Cena_mark - 2011-11-15

Its an old wartime tactic, attack under the cover of night. Night adds to the fear and confusion of your enemy.

Cherry Pop Culture - 2011-11-16

No one I know watches this stuff but me :(
