Just because people's heads aren't exploding doesn't mean we shouldn't hold ourselves as a country to a much higher standard. Bahrain probably doesn't go around saying they're the freest country, a beacon of liberty and all that and then treat people expressing their constitutional right to peaceful protest as criminals.

We are at a higher standard. Our protesters are the most free in the whole world, but that doesn't mean there aren't any limitations. When the protesters are breaking a law they are warned a million times to stop, then the police have to arrest them, if the protesters resist arrest then nonlethal force is used. Then suddenly our cops are thought of as the worstest, meanyest, Naziest, Kim Jong Ils on the planet.

The video is called Occupy Bahrain so there is an obvious comparison to the Occupy movement. Don't hate on me for bringing it up. Just because there are dead people in the video doesn't mean relevant issues shouldn't be discussed.

I think almost everyone involved with OWS is well aware of the differences, thanks.

I get a little angry at the over-arching "revolutionary" aspect of OWS itself, being a political pragmatist. However, when Bahrainis come onto American OWS sites and pledge their support and "brotherhood," it's easy to not only get a little teary-eyed, but to care much more about what they're going through.

If anything comes out of this OWS business, barring any real policy change and regulatory reform of our finance industry, revision of our tax system, and so on, at least Americans are being brought closer to the suffering of people in other countries that was not directly caused by us invading them. That's really important, that has a healing effect.

By the way, this video was posted to Occupy Bahrain by people from Bahrain. Westerners are not rewriting this or co-opting this struggle to romanticize their own, if that's what you're insinuating.

Cena, the cold hard fact is that there is more ammunition in the hands of civilians in this country than there are individual members of law enforcement and all branches of military. It wont happen here because the moment it gets to this level the power structure of America would be wiped out in a week. Americans must be bred in captivity, not broken by force. Not you, not Seal Team 6, not the fucking Super Koch Brothers could save this country from its population if it went down like this. Al Qaeda would be a cherished memory compared to the horror of dealing with an American insurgency. That's why anti-government types are treated like the devil here, because they are to those in power. It isn't that our own leaders don't want to do this to us, they just have a healthy sense of fear.

Memedumpster, we have more than the 2nd amendment protecting us. They lack the arms in the UK, but they don't have to abuse their citizens to maintain control. Western democracies are just plain better than mid eastern dictatorships and monarchies.

Mouser, honestly, I couldn't watch this beyond a couple of seconds. I've personally seen corpses in similar conditions but in the context of helping pull them out of car wrecks, and the act of "doing" something somehow made me insensitive to the gore. Here, being simply presented with them as a voyeur, I find it immensely more horrifying.

However, there is no way I'm not going to 5 star this or share it. This was posted by the people of Bahrain so that others could see. If people can't handle it, fine, that's their choice, but it's here and it's real and maybe it means something.
