The past always thinks the future will be pretty dumb.

garcet71283 - 2012-01-16

The past always thinks the future will be less disappointing.

Vaidency - 2012-01-16

To be fair, the present always thinks the past must have been pretty dumb, too.

Innocent Bystander - 2012-01-17

And nine times out of ten the present can't really get the present right either.

Shanghai Tippytap - 2012-01-16

ive been thinking about this a lot lately. im glad im not the only one.

mashedtater - 2012-01-16

i wonder what staging directions the director yelled at douglas.

"PRETEND YOU ARE HANDLING A BIG HAM"

"DON'T TOUCH THE FILES TOO HARD, OR THEY WILL EXPLODE"

Get off my board man...you're too hot

BHWW - 2012-01-16

This was way more efficient than computer filing systems of the early 1990s!

Old_Zircon - 2012-01-16

Not command line.

hammsangwich - 2012-01-16

Since I've read Nueromancer, I've realized how many movies have ripped it off.

Old_Zircon - 2012-01-16

All of them.

Binro the Heretic - 2012-01-16

Believe it or not, the book was even more stupid.

FABIO - 2012-01-16

It might not seem it, but I always hold this up as one of the most 90s movies ever made. You have the early 90s VR obsession combined with the height of PC backlash with a poor white male being ridiculed for accusing a woman of sexual harassment.

Oktay - 2012-01-16

VR was as widely understood in the 90s as AI was in the 60s.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-01-17

Yeah, Al is a bit of a mystery. Sometimes he just gets up and goes for weeks at a time. Nobody asks where when he comes back, because he just wouldn't tell us.

We can all learn a thing or two from Al.

Oktay - 2012-01-17

We're talking about Strong AI, right?

duck&cover - 2012-01-17

Should have gotten Jones the cyber-dolphin to help him hack his own brain.

kingarthur - 2012-01-17

I read an interview with Takeshi Kitano once where he says he deeply regrets not reading the script first that time around.

chumbucket - 2012-01-17

Did I see that right, is he standing on a mini-trampoline?

Also, loving this week's "crappy computer gimmicks in TV/movies" week.

Syd Midnight - 2012-01-23

Before I noticed the trampoline I was hoping he was wandering around his apartment and would eventually walk into a wall or trip over the toilet or something. That's a scene I'd like to see in cheesy old pseudo-cyberpunk, horrible accidents resulting from standard input devices that require way more effort and coordination than mouse and keyboard.
