BREASTS!

Hooker - 2012-01-24

So if I'm reading the subtext here, "include me in everything and treat me different than everyone else."

zerobackup - 2012-01-24

Women are different from men.

Hooker - 2012-01-24

Would you find it fair to demand to be included in an all-female or mostly all-female group of whatever (video game fans, sports fans, book club, etc) and then also demand that the way they treat everyone don't apply to you?

I'm not defending the male practice of treating women with immaturity and disrespect, but that's something that should be combatted everywhere, not just in groups of nerds. Her complaints seem to be less about respect and more about status; which, more power to her, since women at hives of childish boys are obviously at a premium, but if a woman is going to slum it like that, she's probably going to have to take the bad with the good.

zerobackup - 2012-01-24

Correct, I was being deliberately contrarian in hopes of circumventing the tide of "shut up, tits or GTFO lol teabagging" comments I expected.

But really, yes it's quite obvious if roles were reversed and a male was demanding equal treatment in a female dominated group they would most likely be laughed out of said group and told to "buck up if they can't handle it". This same advice should apply to "gamer grrls" trying to fit into gamer culture. Conform to the culture or don't, complaining your way into anything rarely creates any goodwill.

Cherry Pop Culture - 2012-01-24

As token feminist around here, I will share my (not) so cared about feelings:

1. What she talks about is lowest-common-denominator 'treat teh women well' that I have seen and heard from magazines and friends. However, the unfortunate thing is a lot of people respond well to it.

2. I don't get the comment of her "wanting to be treated like a princess" thing came from. She apparently wants to share a hobby with the boyfriend. I am the nastiest, loudest bitch in my circle of friends. I make people tremble. I will flat-out tell you you're on my shitlist. BUT, if there is someone I don't know too well or is a n00b, I will tone myself down. It's a respect thing. After the person gets to know me, Bitchy Bigtits comes out and starts taking names.

3. If a man wanted to be treated well in a group mainly dominated by women, I would sure as hell stand up for him not to be harassed or mocked. Respect goes both ways.

SolRo - 2012-01-24

Is it Miss Bigtits?

spikestoyiu - 2012-01-24

CPC, you sound just awful.

baleen - 2012-01-24

I like Cherry Pop Culture because her first post was about her breasts and bra fitting. It's all shoots and ladders here on in. I'm pretty easy.

Cherry Pop Culture - 2012-01-24

Awww...baleen *hugs*. Glad to know someone thinks I'm entertaining :D

FABIO - 2012-01-24

First it's America's two party political system, now gamer grrrlz.

Hooker can't STOP taking stands on issues!

kingofthenothing - 2012-01-24

I guess what bothers me about this video are the little things. One thing that jumped out was that she quized her boyfriend on geek knowledge. What happens in that alternate universe where he fails? The other thing is that the majority of gamers need to be taught some real life lessons, not this self help magazine garbage. If you ever see the crowd of people that play D&D these days, you'll see what I mean. Dudes need some basic hygiene, a better diet, to hop on an exercise bike now and then and some freaking deodorant. They're never going to meet girls if they don't crawl out from under their rocks, and when they do meet them, they should probably at least be quasi-presentable if they want things to go anywhere.

They don't need some pampered princess getting their hopes up. They need Denzel Washington to go "Training Day" on their asses. Gamers these days are fucking Pop Tarts. They're either anemic waif-looking dudes with facial pubes or they're like a more grownup Eric Cartman.

Old_Zircon - 2012-01-24

I've got a good friend who's an anemic waif-looking dude with facial pubes (except he can barely even grow those) and he gets hell of sex. He's not a gamer, though.

poorwill - 2012-01-24

'Is it Miss Bigtits?'

Ms Bigtits, surely.

Grandmaster Funk - 2012-01-24

"Remember that we are a girl." As a linguist I am fascinated by that line. The rest of me is just dumbfounded by the rest of the video.

BiggerJ - 2012-01-24

Either Dissociative Identity Disorder or the 'royal we'.

TheOtherCapnS - 2012-01-24

Let's not forget 'expecially"

ry0suck - 2012-01-24

I think you spelled your name wrong, gurl.

Mambazo - 2012-01-24

http://www.fybertech.com/4get/13265545812305.jpg

At least I have an excuse to post this.

Riskbreaker - 2012-01-24

Stars for that.

Anaxagoras - 2012-01-24

More ghost stars for it.

Pope Caius - 2012-01-24

I love you.

The Mothership - 2012-01-24

nice.

NewHeavenSalesman - 2012-01-24

Stanley's fumbling idiot fart right below this just makes things even better.

StanleyPain - 2012-01-24

Well, if NHS has that to say about me, I am taking my ball and going home. It was only through your eyes that I wished to be seen and now....all hopes have been dashed.

StanleyPain - 2012-01-24

Any girl to whom this would apply to is not really a girl who likes to play video games, but rather a girl who thinks that playing video games (or feigning interest in them) will attract attention from other people, sort of like those girls (you know the type) who try really hard to pretend to REALLY REALLY REALLY be into sports, just so that men who are retardedly into sports won't treat her like a dumbshit when they're not too busy watching the game.

I don't know a single female who also happens to like to play video games who wouldn't be supremely offended if they were singled out for this kind of pretty princess bullshit.

pastorofmuppets - 2012-01-24

Not to sound like TFL or anything, but she strikes me as someone who can't cope with the transition from attractive girl (treated like royalty) to attractive woman (people generally are too busy to care).

Spoonybard - 2012-01-24

I refuse to believe that developing a broad consumer knowledge of video games is going to make anybody sexier to anybody, but I guess it does provide a reason to keep reading IGN

Grandmaster Funk - 2012-01-24

I know, I just couldn't get over that her first tip was to know a lot about video games. I think your audience has that down, sweetheart. More hilariously still, that seems to be a tip for acquiring a girlfriend, but she talks about how much she likes it when her -current- boyfriend displays his knowledge. There's a different standard for sexily impressive with someone you're already in a relationship with, as opposed to a stranger at Gamestop.

NewHeavenSalesman - 2012-01-24

So is it like a secret girl gamer law that you have to state some variation of "just because I have boobs doesn't mean I am incapable of gaming" within 30 seconds of every video you do?

TeenerTot - 2012-01-24

You get more attention if you constantly remind the boys that you HAVE BOOBS. (and play games.)

TeenerTot - 2012-01-24

Ugh.
Lookit meeeeee!!! I've got BOOBS!!!!

Old_Zircon - 2012-01-24

Ecspecially should be a tag.

Pope Caius - 2012-01-24

And now it is so.

Paracelsus - 2012-01-24

Look, if you're going to tap this particular attention market, be ready for the given circumstances. Soak up the wonderment of bottom-feeders and deal. Or choke up on the bat and hit a sports bar. Jesus, how irritating.

chumbucket - 2012-01-24

"Eggspecially" and the spelling of your name is broken.

oh and don't want to leave out "visah versah"

Void 71 - 2012-01-24

What if I don't want to date a girl who plays video games?

pastorofmuppets - 2012-01-24

Seriously. Is there a video called "how to date a girl who reads books"? That's a little more up my alley.

SolRo - 2012-01-24

You have to buy her the newest book

and also a copy for yourself because you have to read the same books

and tell her how facinating and interesting her book choices are

be prepared to remember every charecter and plot point in every book. there will be a quiz.

get used to driving several hours and waiting several more in line to get an autographed copy of that awesome new book by that popular author

Or dont date anyone that defines their life by one thing, no matter how normal that thing might sound.

pastorofmuppets - 2012-01-24

Ok.

Girls who occasionally reads nonfiction books from intellectually honest authors and novels so well-written enough that boring me with plot details won't do them justice.

Sorry if I turned any of you on with that.

pastorofmuppets - 2012-01-24

grammar is slipping... i should date a copyeditor

RocketBlender - 2012-01-24

From my own experience:

1) Don't expect your stupid crap to come before your video games, and don't expect your video games to come before her stupid crap.

Yeah, it's your birthday, and yeah, all your buddies are waiting for both of you to show up at the bar/bowling alley you all rented together. Sure, she promised she'd be off by 4, but that was before her raid went sour. Now she NEEDS another hour or two to regroup and finish the dungeon, and you just don't understand how badly quitting now would effect her standing in the guild. You can go without her if your friends really can't want a couple short hours, but don't expect her to be happy with you.

On the other side, when she craves ice cream, no number of hours you had to work that day will be enough to excuse you from a run to the store. Whatever you're doing to unwind doesn't matter.

2) Buy her shit!
As a girl gamer, she's used to lots of gifts and unexpected attention. She can't log into her MMO of choice without finding a heft bag of coins from that guy she grouped with and winked at last night. If she says she wants something, in or out of game, you'd best be prepared to buy it. If you don't, some other guy will, and that's bad for business.

3) Staying ahead of the pack;
If there's one thing you gamers understand, it's keeping your gear and stats maximized. If something is getting old, it's time to replace it, and boyfriends are no different. If you're not constantly buying her shit, showering her with attention and praise, and someone else else, you're getting outdated. It doesn't matter how tired you are of her introducing herself to every person at gamestop, showing off her triforce necklace, or explaining how Sephiroth is her dream man. If you aren't praising her for how cute and quirky she is doing it, you might just get traded in for one of the desperate nerds there who is, and still has money to spend on her.

4) Breaking up
This one is crucial, as it WILL happen. Maybe you'll run out of money, maybe someone else will pamper her better. Maybe she'll meet someone online on a fanfiction website, and unlike you, will actually read her romance fanfic of Sephiroth and Vincent, tell her how talented she is, and offer her 'creative input'. Sooner or later, someone will 'treat her like a princess' better than you do for any number of reasons. Don't think of this as a breakup, think of it as your own personal freedom. For the first time in ages, you will come home to a clean apartment, do your homework uninterupted, and spend your money on something reasonable. This is a fresh start for you, a second chance to get life back on track. If you're really feeling brave, you can dump her; just remember, she is a girl gamer, and as such, has done nothing wrong. Prepare yourself to be hated by all her friends, and if you play the same game as her, to receive hatemail from her guild for months.

RocketBlender - 2012-01-24

Really, no matter how much you think you do, a girl gamer (or worse, grrrl gamer) is the last thing you actually want. What I've found works is someone who tolerates games at best, especially if you're not the type that puts gaming before everything else themself.

It's much, much healthier that way.

Eroticus E - 2012-01-24

You could have not written all of those words and the world would be exactly the same.

FABIO - 2012-01-24

I think most people recognize a variation.

The gamer grrrlfriend or wife of a buddy who insists on being included in all group games and is not afraid to get IN YOUR FACE and trash talk JUST LIKE THE GUYS!

Only the instant one of the guys trash talks back (with a fraction of the intensity), she has a bipolar meltdown and starts screaming about how everyone is being an asshole to her. The poor whipped boyfriend has to excuse them and spend the rest of the night talking her down.

NewHeavenSalesman - 2012-01-24

holy shit I regret making fun of StanleyPain now.

CJH - 2012-01-24

seriously guys, this whole page of comments is fucking classic. i don't even need to watch the video to leave these FIVE STARS

RocketBlender - 2012-01-24

Make fun of me all you want, NewHeaven. I know I was an idiot for putting up with her (and her otaku friends). What can I say, 20 year old me was equal parts horny and retarded.

At least I walked away from the whole ordeal a bit smarter, and with a bunch of stories that may not go over as well as I thought they might here.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-01-25

You'd think stories like that would go over like gangbusters here, but apparently we've still got some of that old PoE-News residue lingering about.

SolRo - 2012-01-25

Hey, if you aren't an unemployed indy writer with a chubby girlfriend supporting your PoE-News lifestyle, you should know better than being accepted here Caminante.

Sudan no1 - 2012-01-25

I'm discovering whining about gamer gurls coincides with a hatred of Tim and Eric. Not so surprising coincidence, there.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-01-25

Yeah, that really proves a lot, by which I mean what?

NewHeavenSalesman - 2012-01-25

I'd feel worse about my mockery if you hadn't written multi-paragraph screeds about the Dangerous Allure of the "Gamer" Girl on fully 3/4s of the videos with the gamer girl tag.

RocketBlender - 2012-01-25

This is a fun place to vent. Also, I have a pretty passionate hatred of the subject and other nerds in general.

Noober - 2012-01-26

RocketBlender, you are damaged goods.

Robin Kestrel - 2012-01-24

Hair by Clorox.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2012-06-10

Yes but only once

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-02-18

I will not date, nor seek dating advice from anyone who says "Don't let the boobs fool you." That is about 12 different kinds of condescending.
