Jesus fucking Christ, they managed to make me laugh AND hate Derpy at the same time. 5 Stars for the fangasm.

Shoebox Joe - 2012-01-22

I also want to point out a thing here. There is no doubt in my mind Ashliegh Ball did Derpy, but there are no credits listing the actor. Add this with the fact the only highly liked responses for the episode are Pinkie's reaction to a broken Pinkie promise and Derpy, which has nine times the favor over Pinkie.

There's only one person who even mentioned RD's "They knew what they were getting into!" in the youtube for that episode.

Crunchy Frog - 2012-01-22

Actually, it was Tabitha St. Germain, the voice of Rarity.
I know this because I read Equestria Daily, the biggest FiM fandom web site.
Just articles, not the article discussions. UGH! Imagine twenty times as many bronies gushing the same sort of faniarrhea you see here, some of them spending a fraction of a second longer thinking about how to make their posts seem "clever."

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-01-22

Now all they have to do is find a way to put Dr. Whooves and Nyx in an episode, and a significant portion of their viewers will literally burst into flames.

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

They'll probably give Doctor Hooves a scene in an Applejack episode.

EvilHomer - 2012-01-22

As a Doctor Who nerd, I'm curious about this Dr Whooves. What makes him Doctor-like? Is he a Gallifreyan pony? Does he wear a scarf? Tennant, Smith, or Baker? Inquiring minds want to know.

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

There's various background ponies with hour glass cutie marks and they resemble some of the Dr.s I wouldn't know I don't watch Dr. Who cause I'm not a dork.

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

And to make it worse. A lot of the fandom pairs Dr. Whooves with Derpy and claim one of the background ponies is their daughter.

Squeamish - 2012-01-22

"I don't watch Doctor Who because I'm a dork."

This said by the man who has posted at least five times about ponies and which ponies are in the background.

Oh, Cena.

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

I know being a fan of this show is dorky, but I'm know where near as lame as your typical Dr. Who fans. And don't get me started on the fans that like both.

pastorofmuppets - 2012-01-22

I had to look up cutie marks. That makes me better than all of you.

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

SeacePellsWutBho'sBuying: That's exactly like something I would have said during my brony denial phase.

BiggerJ - 2012-01-22

At one point, one of the supposed Doctors showed up in a long-ago flashback looking exactly as he does in the present.

Xenocide - 2012-01-22

Sometimes the internet is just adorable.

This does represent some kind of amazing nerd convergence, though. The fans latched on to a space-filling background character who appeared in the first episode for like three seconds, gave her a name and persona, and now a year and a half later, the creators have responded by including these traits in the show. It's as wonderful as it is horrifying.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2012-01-22

Yeah, the fans just won't let an animation error develop on its own, like Hans Moleman.

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

Goddamn animation error. It was supposed to be Applejack's day.

EvilHomer - 2012-01-22

So, what? This is some kind of brony version of Ermac?

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

In the first episode there was a background pony who's eyes were accidentally drawn pointing in opposite directions. The fans dubbed her Derpy and created fanart, comics, fanfic, etc about her. In a later episode she said the word "Muffins" and Derpy being obsessed with muffins became part of the mythos surrounding her.
The animators have put her in little cameos as a way of pandering to the bronies who fangasm with every glimpse of her they get.
I think they over pandered here.

Xenocide - 2012-01-22

I too am shocked and appalled. I can't believe that a show which exists to sell toys to children would actually stoop to pandering to its viewers!

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

The problem isn't that they're pandering to the children, its that they're pandering to the bronies. Kids don't know about Derpy.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-01-22

They do now!

Xenocide - 2012-01-22

Sorry, I just can't get upset that a half-hour toy commercial (an entertaining one, but still) is pandering to someone.

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

There's a difference between trying to entertain and trying to pander. Look what MLB's pandering to fans, over the breaking of big records got us. Roided Mark McGuire and Barry Bonds soiling big records.
Pandering means they're trying too hard and in the end it creates a product that is too self aware and lame.

Xenocide - 2012-01-22

Yes, Cena. This is exactly like steroid abuse.

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

What I mean is that Baseball didn't do anything to fight it. They could have at least developed a good wellness policy like WWE, but instead they let it get out of hand for the sake of records. I'm concerned that if the creators of MLP get too self aware the show will lose its charm and become Brony Panderthon.

Pompoulus - 2012-01-22

My prediction, it'll keep raking in dough by deliberately pandering to its lunatic fans until somebody stabs a voice actress to death, and then there'll be a deluxe box set and the whole unhappy affair will fade into the mists of time.

Adham Nu'man - 2012-01-22

Anyone who even remotely understands what the fuck is going on is a fucking brony and shouldn't try to pretend otherwise. You fucking geeks.

Adham Nu'man - 2012-01-22

Oh, and star.

MongoMcMichael - 2012-01-22

The lady doth protest too much.

Udderdude - 2012-01-22

tl;dr MLP has the worst shit-eating fanbase ever

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2012-01-22

I'd never watched anything to do with MLP and now I can not unknow what a Derpy is.

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

Adham Nupony, We got us a closet brony here.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-01-22

Videos like this always make the closet bronies shout even louder than usual.

jimmicampkin - 2012-01-22

I am unable to translate any of this, and I'm worried that so many right-minded and intelligent people can.

NewHeavenSalesman - 2012-01-22

Withholding a one-star rating because I get this stupidly hype when watching fighting game streams, but this is still fucking awful.

Vaidency - 2012-01-22

Yeah, I was fine with the pony thing back when it was just a well-made kids' show that had some elements parents could appreciate too. The world needs more of that.

Now that it's become the internet's preferred vehicle for lonely and frustrated 15-30 year old males to pretend they have female friends, I want to do with it.

Vaidency - 2012-01-22

Meant "do away with it" there.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-01-22

When people talk about how sexually-frustrated or lonely the people they don't like are, I always presume they're secretly talking about themselves.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2012-01-22

I think the guys watching the little pony rainbow show are more "sexually confused and conflicted" than they are sexually challenged. I mean imagine how hard it is for cena to be surrounded by guys playing sailor boy all day and yet forced to fight his inner most desires.

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

Its just a cartoon. Why should my sexuality be judged just because I like a cartoon?

cognitivedissonance - 2012-01-22

5 because I have no idea what's going on or why this is interesting.

Mother_Puncher - 2012-01-22

Powergirl levels of fan service.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-01-22

I consider every scene with the Mayor in it to be fanservice, if you know what I mean.

Bort - 2013-03-08

Power Girl, not Powerpuff Girls. Right?

Redford - 2012-01-22

Keep in mind that for virtually every other show in the entire world, they wouldn't have used that fan name due to it being insensitive to the mentally challenged. This level of fanservice has apparently overpowered all levels of common sense, decency, and consequence, much like the internet tends to do to the people who the fanservice was created for. Ponies or not, this is pretty amazing.

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

That's where there was another controversy. They were already giving the fans some Derpy in season one, however in one episode a pegasus who isn't shown on screen is described as doing something stupid and the name used was "Ditzy Doo." Bronies figured it was a more sensitive name for Derpy, but they still hung on to the original name.

kingofthenothing - 2012-01-22

And that's a wrap. I think I'm done with POE.

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

And how is this worse than Katawa Shoujo?

Kabbage - 2012-01-22

I love how quickly it becomes just raw, primal, all-caps grunts, squees and barks. Say what you will, these people had no words.

Spit Spingola - 2012-01-22

This MLP thing is kind of like a disease that catches itself.

joelkazoo - 2012-01-22

This is the first 2 minutes of MLP I've ever watched, and believe me, it's the last 2 minutes I'll ever watch.

This is a show for little girls, period.

Cena_mark - 2012-01-22

I said the same thing...

themilkshark - 2012-01-23

Coming from a Powerpuff Girls/Foster's Home fan, this show is NOT good.

Mambazo - 2012-01-23

It's alright, I mean if you like cartoons for little girls and all.

Now if you'll excuse me Street Sharks is on Netflix and I have to get back to extensively studying it for the sake of my crossover fanfiction with the Ninja Turtles.
