I don't like using the terms "overrated" and "underrated," but I can't help but feel that there are people in comedy who never really achieve the success and acclaim they should. Norm MacDonald is one of those people. Charles Grodin is another. Charles Grodin has always been underrated.
I was actually a pretty big fan of his CNBC show. It was a nice way to wind down a hectic day at community college. And even if you hate Grodin, you have to concede he's pretty damn awesome in "Midnight Run", a role which made me a fan of his in the first place.
If this man had been a dad in the 50's, or perhaps just a dad on a 50's sitcom, there would have been no hippies. No one would be gay. We'd all have nuclear families and dress just like him, worshiping him as a Saint. In another solar system.
