Added date and views on the video page.

Added an activity tracker on the left side of the main page. It loads up new every time you load the page. Resubmit voting is currently absent because of an odd bug I will look at later this week.

Made the front page show your status (logged in/out).

ToDo: show recent activity for you. Who commented/rated your video. Who replied to one of your posts.

All of this is still easier than fixing search.

At some point when functionality is done we will go through and clean up the look.

support - 2012-02-13

Currently it shows only the last activity you performed. Does that make sense or would you rather see everything someone did and make the activity section strictly chronological?

jangbones - 2012-02-13

I like the changes, I'm neutral on your recent activity question

Improving search is really the only thing I would like, but you know that already

My vote; don't change the look all that much, the simple functionality of the front page is a positive. Maybe clean up the sidebars, make them a little smaller.

pastorofmuppets - 2012-02-13

Assuming you are definitely doing it, my vote is chronological, and without distinguishing between your actions and other people's. And if possible with user-selectable filters, so if you just wanted to see "my uploads" or "their replies," etc, you could filter the list.

On thing that seems weird is that replies have a bigger font than regular posts. I think their containing div is missing the "video-text" class.

Also, IMO, bulbs are the main thing people would ooh and aah over, although I could see where, like search, that might require more serious database changes.

The Mothership - 2012-02-13

all very nice so far, but I do second jangbones' request to keep the front page bare bones and simple.

Also, 73Q resubbed vids are shown on the front page. Can PoeTv resubbed vids have the same courtesy?

Also, can we have number of successful resubmits added to our profile stats?

pastorofmuppets - 2012-02-13

I like all of the changes, nice work.

Regarding search, maybe the PHP port of Namazu would work? I haven't used it myself so I can't actually recommend it.

bopeton - 2012-02-13

Like it. Fix the Google Search?

Comeuppance - 2012-02-13

The google search thing has been addressed - it'll have to be someone other than google, most likely. Quoth support:
"We have removed all Google banner ads because Google was trying to dictate some of the content the site could run and still run their ads. We felt it was "newsworthy" content and refused to remove the content. Google is still pissy and that is why Google search doesn't work. We will fix the search soon."
( From http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=104228 )

I like these changes a lot. Improved functionality on this site is something I didn't even know I wanted until it happened. In regards to the new dupe system, I'd like to see one for videos that have already made it past the hopper. Much like the update dead link function, it could be a voted-upon page with a submitted link to the pre-existing video. Just a thought. Good work.

memedumpster - 2012-02-13

Wow, Google just blows. Another company that can't fail fast enough.

chumbucket - 2012-02-13

Liking the changes...all useful and don't seem to upset the chi.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-02-13

These changes aligned my chakra. By chakra I mean my taint.

gambol - 2012-02-13

Question: What do dupe votes in the hopper do? If a video gets so many is it removed? Or is that information simply informative to later voters?

Unless dupe votes also add to the "No" column, then using votes on Dupe instead of on No will just lead to more dupes getting through.

gambol - 2012-02-13

Oh, and all the functionality changes are really positive so far. Glad to see the return of "views."

roughnready66 - 2012-02-13

Great changes. How about number of comments under each video?

memedumpster - 2012-02-13

The spreadsheet gamer nerd in me loves all the new digits to track things by! Rewarding comments would be cool too.

RocketBlender - 2012-02-13

Hey support, what counts as a view? Each time a page is visited, or play is clicked? It's hard to believe we're up to almost 500 views here. I dont think we have that many users...

How many active users do we have, anyway?

memedumpster - 2012-02-13

poeTV actually has a lurker base of between six and seven trillion people from all across space and time. Most of the views have been temporally subtracted to not paradox your brain stem.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-02-13

I was on this site for years before I actually made an account. There are probably several times more people that do that than those that post.

pastorofmuppets - 2012-02-14

It's every time the page is loaded, regardless of who loads it.

Change - 2012-02-13

Love most of the changes, but it looks like the videos users have submitted are no longer showing up when you click their user name.

Change - 2012-02-13

Unless that's just being left for the submitted videos link, in which case, cool.

fatatty - 2012-02-13

Looks great to me. If we can get a search fix and some way of allowing for the youtube URL variability so we don't get as many dead videos this place will be pretty much perfect.

Oscar Wildcat - 2012-02-13

PARSERS ARE HARD. derp.

Sputum - 2012-02-13

Good work :)

memedumpster - 2012-02-14

Got a "INSERT SUPER EXPLOSION El Grande activity" error while trying to favorite.

support - 2012-02-14

This should be fixed. Sorry.

memedumpster - 2012-02-14

It's okay, those are the greatest named errors on the Internet.

Oktay - 2012-02-14

I like!

badideasinaction - 2012-02-14

Is there a good reason why more than 50% of the hopper vids seem to be blank now? Running chrome in Canada, not sure if there's a region lock on a vid or people are using some new video service that isn't showing in this browser.

Or have submitters just been eating more paint chips recently...

The Mothership - 2012-02-14

Hey support, got a potential issue. I like the cool new 'recent activity' section on our user pages, and this includes new submissions. but the new submission appears on the users' record when it is still in the hopper, not when it gets voted up on the front page. I thought the hopper was supposed to be anonymous; this might lift that veil a little.

support - 2012-02-14

I went back and forth on displaying that publicly.

I agree with the hopper comment so it is now restricted. Only you can see that information and all the information you can see is public already.

The idea is later this week to put up a notifier on the top. This will tell you when there are new interactions for you.

thanks

The Mothership - 2012-02-14

nice one. Also, while we're at it, are the user stats going to be more regularly updated? It still says I have 136 submissions, but I know I have well more than that. not that i'm competitive mind, but while we are getting things working better around here...also second what Pillager said about resubmit stats, he and I work hard on those.

FABIO - 2012-02-20

Really not a fan of the recent user activity section and comment history tracking. That's the same kind of stuff that ruined POE-N. What made this site better/immune was limiting things to video comments that faded away after a couple days. Comment history just sets up more chat cabal e-grudge crap.
