Based on the Junji Ito manga. This looks like a more or less accurate adaptation of his books, hence I will definitely want to check this out - though I really wish they'd done a proper adaptation of Uzumaki instead. Not that I dislike the film adaptation that was already done, but it'd be nice if it was a longform thing that tried to do the whole thing rather than bits and pieces.

poorwill - 2012-02-15

Oh, it's an Ito joint. I will watch this.

Rovin - 2012-02-15

Yes, based on a two-volume Manga.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-02-15

Zhou Fang gave me a copy of those Ito manga on a disc years and years ago. I remember really liking it. So thanks for reminding me of why this all seemed so familiar.

This is what happens when no one takes them to the ri-ver or drops them in the wa-ter.

indeed

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-02-15

If you added a dog to this, it would be an incredibly grim and bloody version of Scooby Doo.

MongoMcMichael - 2012-02-15

Good job, trailer. Spoil the fact that Velman dies.

MongoMcMichael - 2012-02-15

*Velma

Rovin - 2012-02-15

I found that funny that she resembles Velma as well. I don't think that's a character in the Manga - she seems to be doing a lot of stuff I remember the boyfriend doing in the books.

Knock knock knock ....

"Who's there?"

"Landshark."

"Who?"

"Landshark."

rustedmutt - 2012-02-15

Candygram.

Udderdude - 2012-02-15

GASHUNK.

BHWW - 2012-02-15

Wait, you're one of those robo sharks, aren't you.

"I-I'm only a dolphin, ma'am."

memedumpster - 2012-02-15

This Jabberjaw remake is DARK.

Hay Belly - 2012-02-15

in all of it is stark

Gmork - 2012-02-15

Pointless retarded sea creature horror? I'm in.

Binro the Heretic - 2012-02-15

Juni Ito plots sound silly when you try to describe them, but they become deeply and chillingly terrifying when you sit through them. I'm looking forward to this. Trust me, it's not as stupid as it looks on the surface. It's truly nightmare-inducing.

Shoot that shark all you want, boys. It won't do you any good. That shark is already dead, and you're just making it angry.

Rovin - 2012-02-15

I wonder if the main female character will have the same story arc...

NewHeavenSalesman - 2012-02-15

I think they shopped that out to the "attractive slutty girl" character they created specifically for the anime, judging by the scene where she's under the covers.

Rovin - 2012-02-15

Good call, but a pity if it's true as it'll rob the story of some of its bizarre tragedy power.

Sundry - 2012-02-15

Pass. The book was nice junk (Fart powered undead monsters of semi pseudo-scientific origin with some ghost crap thrown in), but the adaptation seems to follow the the Japanese tradition of female characters screaming and crying very, very often like they are trying to satisfy blind sadists.

NewHeavenSalesman - 2012-02-15

I always thought Gyo was the weakest of Ito's works (yes, even including Hellstar Remina), and the apparent changes made (TEE HEE TENTACLES I'M SO SCARED OF WOMEN) sure as hell aren't improving anything. They should have just made The Enigma of Amigara Fault into a 50 minute feature.

3 stars because it's still Junji Ito.

Gmork - 2012-02-15

"but the adaptation seems to follow the the Japanese tradition of female characters screaming and crying very, very often like they are trying to satisfy blind sadists."

This is why I come here.

klingerbgoode - 2012-02-16

I dunno, I love Ito but I thought Gyo was his weakest work.
