There is another gummy bear vs. potassium chloride clip from years ago on the site, but this is a much larger gummy bear experiment.

Hugo Gorilla - 2012-02-16

"The reaction is said to be product favored."

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-02-16

That bear was one week from retirement.

Nikon - 2012-02-16

Burned alive in a chemical fire is a pretty grisly way to go.

Chalkdust - 2012-02-16

WHAT HAVE WE DONE! Soon we will all be living in fear of Gummi Joker Bear.

TSR - 2012-02-17

I'm sure you meant 'grizzly', Nikon

Killer Joe - 2012-02-16

About 30 seconds in I was all "Man, that's a good bowl, I need to get one of those!"

Scurrie - 2012-02-16

The bright blue flame indicates that this was a particularly sweet gummi bear.

TheInternetisFullofGenitals - 2022-09-22

*sobbing* This isn't happening!

Binro the Heretic - 2012-02-17

Would pork rinds produce the same result or is it necessary to process it into gelatin?

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-02-17

For some reason, I can't get the Gremlins theme song out of my head.

TeenerTot - 2012-02-17

I thought that too...I was looking for little fur balls to fly out of him.

Cube - 2012-02-17

That isn't even the biggest gummy bear they have.

The Mothership - 2012-02-17

potassium will fuck you up. sodium too.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-02-17

SODIUM!

Innocent Bystander - 2012-02-17

So will this happen in my mouth if I eat bananas and gummy bears at the same time?

SolRo - 2012-02-17

Yes

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-02-17

So. Dee. Um.

TeenerTot - 2012-02-17

Try sodium.

duck&cover - 2012-02-17

Melting, melting, what a world, what a world!

I think it's molten potassium chlorate, not chloride, though.

Gmork - 2012-02-17

DO IT WITH A GIANT NOVELTY GUMMY BEAR!

Gmork - 2012-02-17

Erm, I mean an even GIANTER one!

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-02-17

We can only hope they destroy one of their largest gummy bears for us...science does keep outdoing itself so I am optimistic.

duck&cover - 2012-02-17

Or a gummy Venus de Milo, carved by gummi artisans who work exclusively in the medium of gummi.

Chalkdust - 2012-02-17

Will you two stop saying 'gummi' so much?

gambol - 2012-02-17

Google tells me that these guys got their chemistry wrong. This is a gummy bear v. potassium chlorate, a product of which reaction is potassium chloride.

Corpus Delectable - 2012-02-17

Yes. And the fact that they thought they could stop the reaction by smothering it or covering it with a lid indicates that they have not fucking clue one what they're doing.

HINT: The oxygen is coming from the perchlorate, idiots, which is under the lid with the gummi bear.

Still fun to watch.

muffinbutt - 2012-02-22

Five stars for your science.

memedumpster - 2012-02-17
