"If it makes you feel any better, Homer, my parents are dead."

pressed peanut sweepings - 2012-02-17

"Weren't you one of the Little Rascals?"

Riskbreaker - 2012-02-17

It should had been Batman!

"Would you like to change your name to Homer Junior? The kids can call you HoJu!"

Conan O'Brian wrote this episode, and it remains the best thing he's ever done.

That's not Batman, that's a young Professor Farnsworth.

"I...shouldn't have stopped for that haircut"

This is probably my favourite Simpsons episode ever. It doesn't feature any Lionel Hutz but Lyle is as good as.

Also - further fuel for the fire that The Simpsons golden age (with VERY FEW exceptions) was actually just Season 3 and 4.

I don't really know the seasons that covered the period I felt The Simpsons was terrific, but I agree that people tend to be far too generous when they talk about the good seasons.

3-8. If you want to be more discriminating, 4-7.

Very clear memories of my father berating me for watching this episode endlessly on VHS, his reasoning being that the first season of the Simpsons was "real". The science fiction and song and dance of this episode was apparently not "real" enough for him.

This scene seems to have been the turning point toward my early rebellion.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-02-18

I've said it before here but I say 2-10, but that's being very generous. 10 had a few good episodes but 11 just nosedives into the craphole. So, I think of it like the edge of oblivion for them.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-02-17

Why is it that every Simpsons clip from season 11 or before is absolutely amazing and now it's like watching dishes dry?

Riskbreaker - 2012-02-17

Don't stir the waters here, to sum up: nice things don't last forever.

Homer's Law of Idiot Effort: a comically stupid character can be capable of putting a good, skillful and/or intelligent effort into something when that effort is misguided and still be stupid all the time - either the action or the motivation behind it will be stupid.
