I think the whole notion of finding secret cultural horror on the internet is basically dead. PoeTV is basically just another shitty video aggregator site. I use it only because it has a tiny amount of taste, is easier to navigate than reddit for my dinosaur brain, and I've been on this network long enough to know all the horribly broken people on here (like solro, who I have no doubt visits bo-news four times a day in the hopes that those bullies have destroyed themselves).

3 stars because this was a pretty dumb part of a show that I used to watch.

This show / video sucks and people are one-starring it.

That said, I sometimes get maudlin about the changes to poeTV, but it's really not that much different than it used to be. I think people tend to forget that at the beginning, poeTV's front page was flooded with unironicly posted good music [videos], Simpsons clips, and the things most well-recieved were often things like A Valentine for Perfect Strangers or that rejected Nutragrain energy bar ad.

poeTV's collective tastes have changed, and I preferred the previous trend of videos, but the select of what types of videos to post haven't really changed.

I like KITH, Simpsons, etc as much as the next user -- but I think that was a sort of a social-network puberty right? Appropriating all that material just to determine the tone of the website and make sure everyone was on the same page.

I'm not saying those videos are juvenline and shouldn't have been posted -- exactly the opposite -- that it was part of the process by which the POE character and profile of its user(s) was defined (and probably why I'm here).

But we can stop posting Simpsons clips now can't we? Can't we...

I would also point out that much of the early media on POE (like Kids in the Hall, The Simpsons, Lenny Bruce, Ween, etc) all has a subversive tone / interesting implied social critique. The IT crowd does not.

I think I understand why many people were opposed to PoeTV having a forum now.

I'm not defending THIS CLIP. I one-starred it. Other people have as well. This is a site where you five-star things on habit and this isn't holding the 4.5 star rating that 95% of videos do.

My point is that the _type_ of videos submitted haven't really changed all that much. People's perception of them has. I suspect it has more to do with long, non-funny posts like this one as opposed to the Twitter-like character limit past of poeTV that forced you to say something useful or at least inconsequentially short.

I don't usually go on some long exegesis in the middle of a video thread -- this isn't my hill to die on and I'm not some liberal pedant faggot from the other side of the internet. Its not that I think there are more shitty vids than good vids these days -- I just think the shitty vids are worse now and worry that it will have a corrosive effect on the site when the main page begins to visibly change.

I'll go back to the churlish one-sentence responses now.

Just to be fair on SolRo's side, those are awfully numerous and very depressing things to see. I'm not a fan of this show, and I like the air that Poetv keeps around itself, but it's good to be light hearted occasionally. Sharing something we enjoy is a vital part of keeping ahold of our slipping sanity from the terrible influences of those concepts listed above. (Mainly the politicians and abuse of power things. The soul crushing sexual fetishes fit in with the light hearted fun to me.)
