Hubba Bubba Nightmare - 2012-03-11

Impressive

Udderdude - 2012-03-11

Yay for tech demos on consoles that have been out for 6 years already?

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-03-11

A tech demo that was made over a year ago, running on six year old hardware

You know, when you take that all into account, this is actually quite impressive. Shame no actual, playable console games that have come out this gen actually look that good in play.

riedquat - 2012-03-11

utter wank

Architeuthis Tux - 2012-03-11

So did Cage steal this dreck or hire the guy that made it?

Either way, nothing positive is said about the man.

riedquat - 2012-03-11

We need ideas for our tech demo!

Hey why not make a subservient artificial woman that guys can hump and who sings Sakura Sakura in the voice of a child

Needs a 'nerds fucking suck' tag

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-03-11

Ha ha ha, you were offended by a video game.

riedquat - 2012-03-11

Video games are fucking offensive, in the main

Gmork - 2012-03-11

"riedquat" stop being so repugnant and stupid.

Meatsack Jones - 2012-03-11

I really liked it. Better than about all the games in the past 3 years.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-03-11

Except Portal 2.

Meerkat - 2012-03-11

Would have been better if the guy had said "Simulated emotional responses check." at the end instead.

Adham Nu'man - 2012-03-11

PMS MODE, ACTIVE.

StanleyPain - 2012-03-11

I really enjoyed Nomad Soul, but I think since then David Cage has just gotten more and more delusional about his abilities as a game developer and storyteller. This short is entertaining, but is sort of symptomatic of that.

theSnake - 2012-03-11

The submitter seems to not know the difference between a game and a movie. Don't worry though, there are a lot of people like you, and you are well catered to these days.

erratic - 2012-03-11

thank you

Old_Zircon - 2012-03-11

This Interstella 5555 reboot does not look like an improvement.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-03-11

Is she stuck with that hair, or can I get her something nicer looking?

All I'm saying is that for the price you're asking, I'd better have a lot of modding options.

Sputum - 2012-03-11

The most derivative android story ever told in CGI that isn't even terribly impressive by today's standards. Hoorah!

NewHeavenSalesman - 2012-03-11

+1 for me bursting out laughing when the TIME TO FEEL AN EMOTIONAL RESPONSE music started to swell up as the robot arms started to strip the robot lady.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-03-11

Imagining the operator laughing as the robot girl pleads for her life is pretty funny.

whatevre - 2012-03-11

this isnt art it's hollywood

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-03-11

It can be considered art, but it's not a video game. At best, it's a cutscene.

Chalkdust - 2012-03-11

jesus, it's gotten to the point where it's as contentious to try and define what a 'game' is as it is to define what 'art' is

sosage - 2012-03-11

Compared to "Art", "Game" is very easy to define. This isn't "Game". No one is controlling anything. There's no gameplay going on. It isn't even pretending to be interactive.

Most "Games are art" proponents have the right intentions, but they constantly push cut scenes and traditional narrative devices used in a game to make their points. They never dig for the expressive examples within the gameplay design itself. The interactive expression. It's the one thing this medium is defined by and does exclusively. Either these specific beard stroking "games are art, here's a cut scene to prove it" people don't think people outside the medium will understand interactive expression...or the worse scenario...they themselves don't understand it and can only point to cut scenes, art direction and music as the obvious signs game is art.

in other words...BLARG

Udderdude - 2012-03-12

"Rules as art" doesn't have the same ring to it. Also they can't mastrubate to it as hard.

Gmork - 2012-03-12

sosage: one game that did it well was uncharted 2, as far as making the cinematic cutscenes actually do-or-die and player-controlled. You raise a valid point that the only way game developers think they can make a 'breakthrough' artsy game is to have the best cutscenes. Nobody seems to remember that gameplay can be just as engaging and useful as a storytelling medium (and not just some douche in a radio feeding you flavor text).

lordyam - 2012-03-11

this ghost in the shell opening isnt as cool as teh first one, and the soundtrack sucks

Spaceman Africa - 2012-03-11

I like how the computer guy is some nerd who calls the robots things like "baby" and "honey."

BHWW - 2012-03-11

"Games can't be art hur durf!" SolRo typed, smug in his belief that surely, this would show all of those "casuals" and "sexhavers" that video games could be important.

He sagged wearily in his chair. Oh to bear the weight of videogames upon one's shoulders, he thought. It's almost too much to cope with, but it had to be done.

Gmork - 2012-03-11

I dont think its as big of a deal to him as it must be for you.

Sudan no1 - 2012-03-11

SolRo is confirmed garbage, but this video is good. Or entertaining, at least.

Gmork - 2012-03-12

Oh make no mistake none of my butthurt posts are in defense of SolRo!

memedumpster - 2012-03-11

Gamers don't want video games to be art, art is something that happens in civilizations not about to collapse.

Robin Kestrel - 2012-03-11

She has a nasty pair of bolt-ons.

fatatty - 2012-03-11

I like it and I hate everyone who doesn't.

poorwill - 2012-03-11

Bubble Bobble is art. This is shit.

Snakeweapon - 2012-03-11

Seriously? This is the videogame that puts the whole 'game/art' thing over the top? Let's try that again with a concept that's not directly lifted from a Bjork video.

Riskbreaker - 2012-03-11

How can this be a "game" video when there's actually no gameplay whatsoever?

fatatty - 2012-03-12

Because it's running in real-time in a game engine. This could be part of an interactive experience in a larger narrative, but it's mostly just to display the acting he can get out of his new mo-cap technology.

Say what you will but this is beautiful game art.

Riskbreaker - 2012-03-12

Yeah but, it's still not a game, is a movie, as in, not interactive.

TheSupafly - 2012-03-11

SOMEONE programmed in those tears to be shed during sadness.

Comeuppance - 2012-03-11

Rape fantasy contingency.

Binro the Heretic - 2012-03-11

Just picking nits, here, but she's a GYNOID, not an android.

magnificent wang - 2012-03-12

Well, the story and dialogue is hokey, but then again it is a TECH demo. As such, it's pretty impressive. Having seen (not played) Heavy Rain or LA Noir, I can say that the character is much more convincing and appealing that those games - I don't get those uncanny valley shivers from this one.

5 evil stars for this tech costing me my job in 5 years.

FABIO - 2012-03-12

Dear David Cage,

All will be forgiven if you just go back and give Indigo Prophecy a proper second half.

Thank you
