you mean a Toy made by a Toy company can't really communicate with a fantasy. Thats some hard hitting Bullshit there.

TheSupafly - 2012-03-19

Its fun whats the big deal.

RedHood - 2012-03-19

5 just because your cunty

VoilaIntruder - 2012-03-19

My cunty :(

RedHood - 2012-03-19

Is a fine cunty?

StanleyPain - 2012-03-19

Except that lots of people think it DOES actually work, genius. Kinda funny how fantasy intrudes on reality like that.

Blue - 2012-03-20

Because every time you summon the ghosts they show up. If they're new, they might spend an hour or so trying to move the triangle thing with their ghostly hands. Either way, they've got to spend 20 minutes on the train back. Leave the ghosts alone, kids.

Binro the Heretic - 2012-03-20

I know a disturbing number of people who absolutely insist a mass-produced eight-dollar piece of cardboard and plastic is a portal to the netherworld.

Half of them believe even touching a Ouija will allow demons to possess your body and make you commit adultery and/or murder. The other half believe you can use it to talk with a ghost who will give you the answers to life, the universe and everything.

It's hard to decide who's more pathetic.

Cena_mark - 2012-03-20

I used to believe in the evil possessing power of the board when I was a Christian. Ouija Boards were a big danger out of the Satanic Panic.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-03-20

When I was younger, ghosts would sometimes tell me to kill for them. When I asked who to kill, they would panic and quickly change the subject to sports. It was painfully obvious that they knew nothing about sports.

klingerbgoode - 2012-03-20

caminate

Bort - 2012-03-21

*****

Caminante.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2012-03-19

Obviously the solution is smaller government.

memedumpster - 2012-03-19

You just have to understand that when Penn and Teller are right about something they are also wrong, since they embody the things we all hate.

Fatness.
Nerds.
Magic.
Comedy.
Fatness.
Fatness.
Mutes.

poorwill - 2012-03-19

You forgot libertarianism and Ayn Rand.

Bort - 2012-03-19

Even this isn't a particularly good refutation of the Ouija board. Let's suppose overly-theatrical witch #2 was right and there are spirits and they need to make use of living peoples' senses ... the way to test for that is to assemble a team of disinterested subjects and have them try to contact a fictitious person. See if they can contact Tom Wayne, loving husband and father, who was killed by a robber many years ago after leaving a movie theater.

Not that I think the Ouija board needs further testing, but if you're going to focus your post Comedy Central career on debunking bullshit, you could do better. And guys ... ? Global warming is real, accept it.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-03-19

Their post Comedy Central career of spouting libertarian garbage under the guise of debunking bullshit.

Cena_mark - 2012-03-20

Give me a break. Each and everyone of you agrees with large parts of the Libertarian Ideal.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-03-20

I happen to agree with a great many parts of Scientology, fascism and the idea of clubbing seals to put my children through college.

As with these things, it the small parts of Libertarianism, the parts about money directly equating to spiritual superiority, that I don't agree with.

Cena_mark - 2012-03-20

Money doesn't give anybody spiritual superiority. Rich assholes just act like that no matter the social system.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-03-20

It's an Americanized Calvinism and you fucking well know it.

Bort - 2012-03-20

What, the libertarian ideal of individual liberties? I shit on individual liberties. I'm much more into CIVIL liberties, which correctly hold that no inidividual liberty is absolute as soon as a second individual is introduced to the system.

Any political philosophy that fails as soon as you allow for a second person is kind of broken on delivery. This doesn't even get us into the bestiary of libertarian subspecies.

Cena_mark - 2012-03-20

That's the dumbest argument against libertariansim ever. Civil rights are individual rights. Of course no individual has the right to stomp on another, but that isn't what individual rights are.

EvilHomer - 2012-03-20

Please, Cena. Everyone knows that without the coercive, extortion funded arm of the state, waging wars and forcing the people it claims ownership over into involuntary relationships, society would collapse and we'd all regress to an age where people believed in mythical bourgeois concepts like "freedom" (the FREEDOM to BE RICH AND GREEDY, instead of sacrificing for the good of the group!). Your individual rights end where my social engineering begins.

Bort - 2012-03-20

To hear libertarians tell it, civil rights AREN'T individual rights. In fact they're an incursion into individual liberties, because they infringe upon my right to be an asshole. The classic example: libertarians whose objection to the Civil Rights Act is that it cuts into the individual's right to deny service to whatever customer for whatever reason.

Evidently, the government is the only organization that is capable of taking away freedoms.

EvilHomer - 2012-03-20

It depends on what you define as "civil rights". "Rights" which impose duties upon you to stop being an asshole, merely because you're an asshole (eg Cena) and not, say, because you're causing direct and immediate harm to someone else (eg lynching a negro for looking at da white wimminz) really are a violation of individual rights, not to mention a violation of our most important civil rights, freedom of speech and freedom of thought.

In fact, I'd argue that protecting man's right to be an asshole was (and still is) THE most important mission of the liberal revolution. If you're not an asshole, obviously, society will have no problems with you, and you don't strictly need a formal system of rights and duties to keep you rolling in life, liberty, and happiness. But it's allowing assholes to be who they are, tolerated (though not affirmed) and free of undue persecution by the normative forces of society, that provides the real challenge, and truly allows society to remain free, adaptive, and able to progress through the benevolent hand of the marketplace of ideas.

poorwill - 2012-03-20

Fuck you.

EvilHomer - 2012-03-20

I may not agree with it, but I will defend to the death your right to fuck me.

poorwill - 2012-03-20

Good. I don't like my libertarians warm.

Cena_mark - 2012-03-20

I'm aware that my right to swing my arm ends where somebody else's face begins. In my libertarian view though, I want people to be able to swing their arms as far as possible without giving people a black eye. The lieberal and conservatard way would allow for no arm swinging at all. Individuals make up groups, if the individual has rights then the group has rights. Individual rights are CIVIL RIGHTS.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-03-20

Well this just became delightful.

memedumpster - 2012-03-20

Libertarians are rights posers.

Here's the hard core new world order.
http://hermetic.com/crowley/libers/lib77.html

cognitivedissonance - 2012-03-21

Memedumpster, I think I know you.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-03-19

I wish they would stop trying to pretend that they were smart and go back to doing vulgar magic shows.

Pompoulus - 2012-03-20

You don't need the board. A buddy and I used to do the same thing with crayons, we'd make our Ghost Crayon slowly draw a picture and use itself to indicate which color to use next. Got some wierd shit that way.

EvilHomer - 2012-03-20

These people have political opinions that make me feel threatened!

ONE STAR.

Now submit some more James Randi, plz.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2012-03-20

The only thing I find threatening about their politics is how they push it on people under the guise of being objective scientific debunkers.

EvilHomer - 2012-03-20

I can respect that; nobody likes to be proselytized to, and I can't stand when talking heads for other ideologies interject their political beliefs into things that should be apolitical, like music or documentaries or debunking shows.

But you have to admit, they did objectively debunk those hippie environmentalists who wanted to ban water. And it's hard to fault them when they're going after Ouija boards.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-03-20

They go after soft targets, and then try to sneak in snippets of their bullshit ideology into their

This is a common libertarian tactic. They criticize petty things that society at large as long ago dismissed and then try to integrate part of their flawed, broken ideology into that criticism. They do this because they are cowards.

EvilHomer - 2012-03-20

Is this a libertarian tactic? Or a person-who-cares-about-politics tactic? Politicos of all stripes do that sort of thing all day, every day. In fact, I'm convinced that the entire body of political discourse in the modern world can be boiled down to neckbeards nitpicking small issues, then trying to jam their own massively flawed ideology into the cracks they've made. Oddly enough, this is one of the reasons why I gave up on being a card-carrying collectivist activist and decided the liberals were the best of a bad lot, if only because their world view tends to hobble EVERYONE with a political conscience.

I mean, I sometimes find it hard to watch Jon Stewart. He's a funny guy, and I used to love him, but nowadays I find it difficult to see him as anything but a smirking, double-speaking, neo-liberal shill, a self-loathing campus socialist with a brother who operates the NYSE, who spent his entire career trying to convince people that America is neatly divided into polarized two groups: yokels who watch Fox News, and free-thinkers like him. And yes, some times, even when he's funny, even when he's not directly trying to puff up his constituency or spin criticism of Obama around so that it's really criticism of what congress "won't let him do", I feel like one starring his videos.

But then I remember that we're all in this together. Libertarian, brony, pedophile, or pinko, we're all in this together; and sometimes, when right is right and the topic is on other things, you've got to leave your baggage at the door and embrace diversity.

Cena_mark - 2012-03-20

I love Public Enemy. Sure I don't always see eye to eye with Chuck D, but I respect him as an artist and his art requires politics.

You haters are just racist against libertarians.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-03-21

Libertarian isn't a race, although they certainly aren't human, either.

EvilHomer - 2012-03-21

We shall overcome.

Robin Kestrel - 2012-03-20

Stripping away all the mumbo-jumbo, the principle by which Ouija boards operate is fascinating, and I think that Penn, irritating as he is, and dumb as some of his political ideas are, did an okay job of explaining it.

My wife and I have taken a cue from Harry & Bess Houdini and have developed a code phrase know only to us.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2012-03-21

My code word is "get out of the house". It may be odd at the time, but hey man, I'm running out of the house talking about ghost communications. At that point, just commit me.

PS: I know Penn is a libertarian, but I have no idea how you people run from Oujia board video to I HATE SMALL GOVERNMENT IDEAS.

Bort - 2013-08-30

My fault -- I never pass up an opportunity to call Penn a fucktard.
