Why blackface? WHY??
|
badideasinaction - 2012-03-26 To be fair, that particular aspect of history doesn't appear to have left much of a mark in Canada. Devoid of that context, it's still a dumb thing to do, but it doesn't have quite the weight of history that it does in the US.
I say this because I know I've had to explain references to fried chicken, watermelon and grape kool-aid to my fellow Canadians before. The internet has spread regional "offensive" humor around a bit more, but doing a bit of digging, this video was from like 1990 or something.

Spoonybard - 2012-03-26 Canada didn't even get black people until 1996. He might as well be dressed as an angel or a goblin
|
Rosebeekee - 2012-03-27 Confederate flags are sold in malls, at flea markets and in gumball machines in my Canadian city and no one has any clue what they actually mean.

Judging by the way this was going I was expecting a B-boy pose at the end, and lo and be hold, they couldn't eve get that right.

I'm sure this offended all the African Americans in Canada.
|
Bootymarch - 2012-09-25 African American is a ridiculous term even when not being applied to Canadians
