Binro the Heretic - 2012-04-10
Ages and ages ago, when I signed in to the Old Man Murray forums, I wanted a cool somewhat obscure reference name like so many other people on the boards had. This was one of many sci-fi characters that had stuck with me. It was mostly because of the way everyone tacked "the heretic" onto his name as if it were an official job title. Like the city has a mayor, a dog catcher, a sheriff...and a heretic.
For some reason, the name pissed a few people off. Some thought I was being deliberately antagonistic to religious people. Others thought I had some kind of martyr complex, believing I identified with the character on a personal level. Most people, wisely, didn't care that much to examine my choice of forum name in any depth.
I used to use it as a screen name for all the forums I signed up with, but I started running across places where it was already taken, even when I left off "the Heretic". I don't know if "Binro" is an actual common name in some countries or if a lot of "Doctor Who" fans decided to start using it.
Lately I've switched to using "Skaolloaks", a name I made up for making RPG characters.
To think, I almost went with "Mr. Fibuli". I can only imagine what people would have read into that choice.

Binro the Heretic - 2012-04-11 "The Pirate Planet" is my all-time favorite Doctor Who story. The Captain is one of the best villains in science fiction, the ultimate embodiment of the "evil genius".
Some interesting stuff about Timothy Bateson, the guy who played Binro:
- He played Mr. Fezziwig in the George C. Scott TV adaptation of "A Christmas Carol"
- He provided voices for characters in Jim Henson's "Labyrinth", most notably the little worm who lived in a crack in the wall and all four heads of the creatures guarding the two doors. ("One of us always tells the truth and one of us always lies")

Spit Spingola - 2012-04-11
Some of these British character actors who would show up and do a one-shot Doctor Who appearance are really good. You almost forget how silly it is.

Five for Binro, just in general.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-04-11
Some day, we will also look back and say "Binro was right."
By then, however, it will be far too late, and Binro will show us no mercy.

Enjoy - 2012-04-11
Until this clip I had always thought it was Brino not Binro.
