The endings were always my favorite part of these games. This is pretty stupid, but once you're lost in it, it's really fun. So it's like it's the opposite of the movie Sucker Punch.

Wait, so she's actually a pretty woman underneath that mask?

That's.... what?

poorwill - 2012-04-12

Yup, David Jaffe is to videogames what Todd McFarlane is to comic books.

It's like they tried mixing the ambiance of Twisted Metal 2 with that of Twisted Metal Black. It makes me wish they'd tried to make Lordi a part of the game.

This game lost me as soon as I saw there were only 3 playable characters for the single player game, everyone is now a Juggalo, the return of multi-stage puzzle boss fights, and RACING missions.

PegLegPete - 2012-04-13

You just made me realize it's totally obvious Twisted Metal would attract hordes of Juggalos, which is kind of heartbreaking for my 11 year old self.

I got a sinking feeling as I read more and more Jaffe interviews before this game came out. Everything coming out of his mouth sounded like the opposite of what made Twisted Metal fun combined with him carrying over all the wrong lessons from God of War (the very first gameplay video was a giant puzzle boss fight with scripted environment objects damaging it).

The point of no return was when he said they were concentrating on multiplayer and how it was a good thing to make players who die sit out the rest of the round like Counterstrike because "it forces players to be more conservative and strategic". Exactly the two words people want to hear when it comes to a Twisted Metal game.

Vigilante 8 was way cooler.

No it wasn't.

I hated that they made so many changes to the formula
from Black's story telling. Black was just the right mixture of bad writing and good delivery, and the fact everyone had their own stories was AWESOME.

I hate the newest one for the same reason I hate modern storytelling in video games, it's all style, no filler.

The best stories from Black were John Doe (An FBI agent with amnesia who gets himself killed after finding it out.) and Crazy 8 (A boxer who has his eyes and mouth sewn shut and goes after the doctor for revenge.)

3 stories, all shitty, and they have "WHAT A TWIST" endings that don't make any fucking sense. And a set of cutscenes that went FUCKING NOWHERE with a Pastor who knew that Calypso was satan, LIKE WE DIDN'T KNOW THAT.

Sorry guys, this game made me mad because I spent on it.

RocketBlender - 2012-04-13

Black's Dollface was way better too, as was their preacher, who was actually a playable character.

FABIO - 2012-04-13

To be fair, most of Black's endings were WHAT A TWIST!

All style no substance you mean? That's kind of how I would describe Black. Yeah it was an awesome boost in graphics for the time (real time weapon change!) and there was crazy stuff like a dude impaled on your car and rampaging ferris wheels, but the actual gameplay was a huge step down from Twisted Metal 2 (which is still the highmark for car combat games).

I think the only reason it got any props was the style (the story presentations were cool) and the fact that ANYTHING would look good after the atrocious third and fourth games.

(Calypso was someone who sold his soul to Satan for power, not Satan himself. GAWD)

candyheadrobot - 2012-04-13

this is from 2012? didn't know the cast and green screen crew from Sharktopus did video games too.
