The company I work for has a digital agency that gets a lot of their bread and butter from SEO and link building and stuff. I'm sure they're pissing their pants.

This is basically how the Van Patten family tree was developed

Let's say you want to know more about Renaissance painters, but the only ones you know are the Ninja Turtles. I can't help you, because as a computer engineer those are the only ones I know as well.

Toenails - 2012-05-16 Stupid tangent: The girl turtle on their team was called "Venus De Milo" because there were no women painters of the Renaissance? Really Ninja Turtle World??? REALLY???
Is the fact that Artemisia Gentileschi is technically Baroque really discount her? Shit, she's a student of Caravaggio. That alone should get your your own sewer palace.
P.S. I'm betting Micheal Bay casts Taylor Schilling to fill her part.

so does this mean that if I search for women who have won the Nobel Prize, Google is going to come back with hits on female suicide bombers who used dynamite?

I hate when computers try to be "smart".
It's been hard enough learning to do things "the computer way" but at least it has a certain logic to it, and usually it gets the job done.
Now, with "smartness" I get all sorts of crap results I don't need, because some engineer thinks he knows better what I'm looking for.

I think Google is a pox upon humanity. They'll exploit anything for the sake of profit.
|
baleen - 2012-05-17 You know they're teaming up with James Cameron to mine, asteroids, right?
|
Jet Bin Fever - 2012-05-17 Yeah, I saw that on the Daily Show. On one hand I think it's totally cool, but on the other I know that they're going to end up patenting the cosmos and keeping all that delicious space water to themselves!

baleen - 2012-05-17 According to the guy that founded this little company I'm working for, if it were not for Google they would have gone out of business on the first year. I think they're kind of the lesser of most evils. I'm glad Google exists and Bing does not rule everything. Microsoft is a less innovative and less benevolent force in the world.

You can no longer build Knowledge Graph in Sydney. All excess hammers have been converted to Foster's lager. What would you like to build?
