I think this place was featured in Gaiman's "American Gods."

Xenocide - 2012-05-20

I went to a talk by Gaiman a year ago. It seems that House on the Rock is one of his favorite places on Earth. Mine, too.

Yeah, it's a big part of the book. I really love this place. It's so bizarre and disturbing and fantastical.

Cyberblah - 2012-05-20

I went after reading the book and I was afraid that it couldn't possibly live up to his description. It did. If anything, he toned it down.

I've gone twice and I hope to get back there again. I can definitely see revisiting it every few years.

Good lord I had no idea this was a real place.

I live about 30 minutes from the House. It's completely nuts, but it does not feel out of place. Wisconsin is much weirder than most people suspect.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-05-20

I think the Gobbler was far weirder:

The place really deserves ghosts or some other kind of supernatural menace.

I'm just starting to date a girl from Wisconsin. Is there anything I should know?

joelkazoo - 2012-05-20

I went to THOTR when I was like 7. I've been saying for like the last 27 years I need to get back there.

Blue - 2012-05-21

So, is there anything else good in Wisconsin to justify the trip? I'm planning a vacation.

joelkazoo - 2012-05-21

Wisconsin Dells has like 20 million water parks, if that's your thing. There's a billion cheese shops anywhere in the state, if that's your thing. I would recommend the Shakey's in Wausau, but that closed. There's a Chuck E. Cheese in Green Bay my distant cousin worked at, which I recall as being a lot of fun when I was 7. Be sure to check out the FantaSuites in Dodgeville, but as Kevin Murphy says "Bring your own sheets, tho."

Hope that helped.
