WHOA!

Comeuppance - 2012-06-02

As time goes on, Star Trek: The Next Generation becomes more and more prophetic.

Alright, science, make me a borg. I want a laser eye and constant mental connection to the internet, and I want it now.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-06-02

Google made Project Glass, which is like that, but with fun targeted ads!

Old_Zircon - 2012-06-02

If anyone's going to invent the Borg it's Apple.

simon666 - 2012-06-02

Except the Apple version will be called the CUBE.

OxygenThief - 2012-07-06

They will have everything made on Rura Penthe because labour costs are cheap there.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-06-02

Great, another thing for conspiracy theorists to jump on. They'll be able to claim that the government uses these to inject mind-control drugs into them while they sleep and a whole variety of other things. I can't wait to see the videos posted here in the near future!

By the end of this video I am convinced someone at MIT has all ready mainlined blow with it.

Old_Zircon - 2012-06-02

It's MIT, they have plenty of better things to mainline.

Ursa_minor - 2012-06-02

yeah right they'd mainline KNOWLEDGE

Shoebox Joe - 2012-06-02

I was about ready to one star this until they pointed out they could pull out liquids through the skin.

big pincers - 2012-06-02

yeah, nothing could possibly go wrong with this technology

kingarthur - 2012-06-03

I have a new topic for my revenge book. :D

TeenerTot - 2012-06-02

Interesting...THROUGH THE EYE????

wtf japan - 2012-06-02

How does shooting air into someone not cause an embolism?

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2012-06-02

MIT is amazing.

Old_Zircon - 2012-06-02

MIT is literally the only school (and possibly the only place) I've seen that fully lives up to the hype.

I never studied there, but I've played the steer roast a few times, been on MBR a few times, and one of my roommates about 8 years ago was a grad student who moved out to become RA of the clothing optional dorm (which is a real thing, although I never once saw a single naked person there). His suite was completely empty except for a PA system and a 10 foot half-pipe in the middle of the living room.

All of the MIT dorms' hallways that I've been in (Senior House and a couple others) are covered floor to ceiling with decades worth of student painted, psychedelic murals.

At the end of the year, MIT stations campus police who, among other things, are there to keep out the REAL police so the graduating seniors' university-sanctioned weekend long orgy of research chemicals, LSD, weed, booze and strippers can go on without interruption.

I used to know a woman who got her master's in organic chemistry at MIT in the early 80s. Because MDMA was still legal, every single lab period there would be at least one person in the back making a batch of it in the back of the room.

Basically, the MIT I know is like Real Genius with less realism and more hedonism.

Old_Zircon - 2012-06-02

Oh, and the afterparty for Gene Ray's Time Cube lecture back in the day was pretty great, too.

Frankly, I'd be a lot more impressed if my vet didn't use this technology every time I take my cat to be vaccinated. The basic idea was patented by Ismach in the 60's. The only thing novel about this technology is using a magnetic drive rather than compressed air. Utterly banal.

I'm sorry, but this isn't the first time. I've stopped following press releases out of MIT because of this. Perhaps someone currently attending can explain what is happening?

Also, I can attest to Zirc's comments about Senior House. I helped paint the Orpheus mural. SteerRoast is a hella fun party.

Ursa_minor - 2012-06-02

Compressed air isn't nearly as controllable.
