Yeah, Archie comics royally pissed off One Million Moms because it featured an openly gay character getting married. The group tried to protest it, but Archie Comics stood firm. The resulting publicity caused the marriage issue to sell out all over the country, and the bigots wept little dumbass tears. So if you were born after 1980, THAT'S now your only real memory of Archie.

I was referring to the fact that Archie was a huge pop culture phenomenon in the late 60's, with one of the most popular cartoon shows of its time, and his "band" releasing one of the best-selling singles of the decade.

But then you guys had to go and drag comics into this. Because you're NERDS.

Once, Archie Comics put out an open call for new artists. I was about 17 and eager to join the burgeoning "comics about middle class teenagers stuck in a perpetual 1950s time warp" industry, so I went to meet their art director, who was based out of Seattle at the time. I showed up with all my "new ideas" for Archie, and she was very, very polite, and thrilled about my enthusiasm, but told me in no uncertain terms were they looking for "new ideas". I was crushed.
