What is with this Utah shit?
Also the whole laughing at your ignorance and blowing it off is one of the most annoying things.

endlesschris - 2012-06-14

They didn't need to interview anybody. I already know that Americans are dumb because they can't figure out to hold their iPhone horizontally when shooting video.

James Woods - 2012-06-14

Jeeeesuuuuus fuuuuucking chriiist! Why would you film this in portrait view?

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-06-14

This video was depressing from all angles, even the one it was shot in.
As an example of a personal run-in with this sort of ignorance, its amazing when I talk to my gf's little sister (who is in high school) about pretty much anything related to civics, history, literature, etc. Its like she just hasn't been taught a damn thing. She goes to one of the best high schools in TN too (not that that's saying a whole lot, but...) and I went to the same one many years back, but the curriculum has eroded away to preparation for standardized tests and lacks critical thinking. The legacy of the No Child Left Behind generation will be MASSIVE, economically, socially, and otherwise.

Cherry Pop Culture - 2012-06-14

LJ: So back in my gradeschool days, fourth graders were finally getting the privilege of doing their first standardized tests. And of course they bombed, the teachers had no experience with teaching what was on the tests. And because school funding is based on how well the students did, well...we were already a poor school.

This is really boring, poorly-done, and and incredibly played-out idea.

sosage - 2012-06-14

The average teenager doesn't give a shit about history, geography or politics?!? GOSH ALL FISH HOOKS! That is just sooooo shocking and weird!

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-06-14

This goes far beyond them not caring about it, though. Hell, I didn't care about anything but smoking and rock and roll when I was in high school, but I still learned a lot of what I was supposed to. And I think most people learn what countries border the US and who the VP is when they're in elementary school. This is atrocious.

CornOnTheCabre - 2012-06-15

i guess the remainder from "a lot of what I was supposed to" was any possible lesson regarding sample size

memedumpster - 2012-06-14

Americans being fucking stupid beyond what should be tolerable in God's universe is normal, nothing to see here, one star!

Dumbasses.

Toenails - 2012-06-14

If they wanted to show how American citizens where dumb, why did they interview high school students? Those assholes are geniuses!

Billy the Poet - 2012-06-14

I knew the answers to all of those questions, and I can't get a full-time job or health insurance. So who's an idiot now?

jangbones - 2012-06-15

I had the exact same thought as I submitted this...all these people who don't know shit will have jobs soon and I will probably still be on unemployment in six months

TheSupafly - 2012-06-14

I did this to my own school for our morning show a decade ago; the secret is to only show the stupid answers out of 4 hours of footage in your 5 minutes of video. We weren't trying to prove any points and just wanted to poke fun at the student body. I got the idea from Jay Leno if that puts things into perspective.

Most people did pretty well.. except for the vice president question, over half the students didn't know who Cheney was. He had only been so for 3 months though, so you can cut us more slack than these kids.
