Stars for existential terror. Reminded me of this article:

"Maurice is very well spoken, (he sounds like Obama)"

Millard - 2012-07-11

I'MA DROP ME SOME BOMBS TO-DAY

baleen - 2012-07-11

A lot of white people just can't help saying that about black people that sound like news anchors.

baleen - 2012-07-11

... The irony is that the guy saying it is a wicked smaht Bostonian.

Spoonybard - 2012-07-12

normal guy of average intelligence compliments an older, better-educated man's communication skills, implicitly expressing astonishment that such a man is in the same economic position as more stereotypically incoherent homeless people

probably a racist

baleen - 2012-07-12

Not a racist, just a man that unconsciously used a term that educated black people are constantly being described as, including the president of the fucking country.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2012-07-11

Nice enough guy, but he's going to keep running into walls if he ideas like "I'm unemployed because I'm big, black, and overqualified" knocking around in his head. Those are hollow excuses.

LeChuck - 2012-07-11

I don't think that's his understanding. I rather think he pointed to those qualities as some of many that make him a less attractive candidate. He also mentioned his age, the depressed employment market, and simple bad luck as reasons for his long unemployment. He's probably right to some degree on every count, and however it is, I don't think his attitude is bad.

But sure, tell the guy he's making wasteful excuses and ought to just try harder more humbly.

Cherry Pop Culture - 2012-07-13

Since late April, I have had 6 job interviews; I've been two and a half years out of work and the best I can do is an internship while I go to school. But at least I can get school credit for it.

samstein - 2012-07-12

Unless you are applying for jobs for 8 hours a day then you have no excuse.

Cena_mark - 2012-07-12

Homeless dudes tell a lot of tall tales.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-07-12

Ahh mark, come on man. I thought you had turned over a new leaf! You've been so tolerant lately.

Cena_mark - 2012-07-12

I lived around a lot of homeless people and have been told some incredible whoppers. They'll lie about having a baby at home or how many job aps they've sent in.

memedumpster - 2012-07-12

So even homeless people troll you?

Cena_mark - 2012-07-12

They troll the world. They'll act like they're all poor, take your money, then drive home in their Beamers.

baleen - 2012-07-12

This is one wrestling fan that trolled himself... under a bridge. YEAAAAAH

memedumpster - 2012-07-12

I think Cena has the homeless confused with the Pentagon.

Rafiki - 2012-07-12

This guy has a LinkedIn page. If it's legit and not started by some asshole as a joke, then he's been unemployed for about 20 years. Gonna have a hard time getting hired no matter what in that case.

http://www.linkedin.com/pub/maurice-johnson/14/b42/b9

Also, you shouldn't put sneerquotes in your resume when describing past coworkers :(

baleen - 2012-07-13

First off, LinkedIn is garbage. I don't look at LinkedIn. I don't use it. I wish it would die.

Secondly, if you're homeless, you get used to either glamorizing your misfortune or twisting the truth to seem more optimistic and thus hirable. It is VERY hard to maintain your sanity if everything crumbles all at once. I recently took in a homeless person who had a miscarriage, got dumped by her boyfriend of a year, lost her job, and was diagnosed with cervical cancer, all within a couple months. She was penniless, overdrawn, uninsured, and understandably she lost it. Could you blame her for doing whatever she could to get back on her feet?

Personally, I don't feel anyone has the right to know everything about a person. This country professional class was built on lies and deceit (look at the former president of Yahoo! even), it's just our parents didn't have the internet and credit reports to spy on every thing they ever did. The man is obviously functional, intelligent and capable, and he should not have to spend his life on the street just because he's old.

My sister went to a 7 Sisters college and worked for Microsoft for years, and SHE is having a problem finding a job.

Old People - 2013-08-27

To be fair, my old First Sergeant was always talking about his Masters Degree, and he was dumb as a box of hammers. He supplemented his paycheck by stealing computers from the Army, occasionally forgot we were in Iraq (he once famously mistook FOB Warhorse for "Fort Huachuca", which is an intel training facility in Arizona) and had me ghostwrite his letters to the families of our guys who died.
