Ooh, is this an nvidia hate video? I got one...

NVIDIA : May or may not be compatible with all things Unreal (probably not).

Old_Zircon - 2015-10-29

I've got a nice video capture card but it will only work in systems with NVidia graphics cards and since it's in a 2u rack server most cards just won't fit and the ones that do seem to fail pretty regularly.
in fact, every computer I've had that had an NVidia card, that was the first thing to fail (not counting hard drives).

He's going Stallman on their asses!

Wish I'd said "he's going Hans Rieser on their asses!" even if it's less true.

This is the nicest thing Linus Torvalds has ever said about anyone.

oh no now they won't get any of that linux gaming money

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-07-13

They're not talking about Desktop Linux, they're talking about Android, and that's weird because presumably there IS a lot of money in that.

Years ago, when I was trying to get a graphics card for my first Linux Desktop system, EVERYBODY told me to get nvidia. They had good proprietary drivers, and I was able to get good performance with the games that were available for Linux, which for me mostly meant neverball and second life. I decided that I wasn't much interested in gaming, so I've been getting by fine with the onboard card for my last few boxes, which I bought used from an online police auction site, but as far as I know, Nvidia still works great with Linux on the Desktop.

The only thing really video-intensive I do with Linux is my XBMC-Live mediacenter box. I can say from experience that Nvidia is the only video card brand that hasn't given me any trouble when it came to performance or just getting the damn thing to work under Linux.

I'm giving that man a standing ovation. Oh yeah, and how do I give this six stars? Great product, lousy company.

Linus has always been a pretty good natured fellow. His memoir of how he created the Linux Kernel (not a page-turner, from the little bit I could get through) was called "Just For Fun". Lately, since coming to America, he seems to be enjoying the attention he can get from shooting off his mouth. As Kernel technician, I don't think he's any more qualified than you or I to evaluate Desktop environments, but when he called Gnome 3 "an unholy mess", it made a huge splash, at least in the little pond that we call "the community". (Gnome 3 isn't exactly a mess. It's a radical restructuring that forces you to relearn the whole desktop paradigm in order to save a few clicks.)

You can tell he knows that finger's going up on youtube, and he's pretty pleased with the prospect.

Fun fact: Linus's wife, Tove, is a one-time Finnish Karate champion. I'm not sure if that's a big deal or not, but I think is pretty cool.

I've long since been an ATI/AMD person myself, and even though the scope of Nvidia's business is a bit wider than simply the PC gaming market, I'd have to regretfully say I'm going to opt for an intel/nvidia box when A3 comes out.

I don't really like nvidia, but I hate knowing I got shafted on performance because something is optimized for one chipset (that utilizes physx) and not others.

I dislike monopolies, but I dislike sub-par performance even more.
