What the what! The country is just plain fucked.

Glad that cheap video recorders are in many peoples hands, just hoping the country doesn't desensitize to this. Is it wishful thinking to assume someone is going to get fired over this?

RocketBlender - 2012-07-23

It shouldn't be.

takewithfood - 2012-07-23

Okay, so this was the first video that I watched this morning, and I'm a little dopey, so it took me a while to realize that this wasn't some kind of Onion piece. As soon as I saw Jay Jackson, the actor who plays Perd Hapley on Parks & Recreation, I assumed it was all a joke.. but the punchline never turned up. I had no idea he was a real reporter, too.

fatatty - 2012-07-23

Yeah for some reason it felt like an Onion video to me too. That opening shot was just so ridiculous it didn't seem real.

RocketBlender - 2012-07-23

I wonder how much they were offering people for their phone footage.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-07-23

When do they offer money? I've only seen them offer threats of arrest and violence.

spikestoyiu - 2012-07-23

Open fire... with rubber bullets. Am I on Reddit?

Old_Zircon - 2012-07-23

It's OK because they only blind and maim.

spikestoyiu - 2012-07-23

Cute, but I never said anything to the contrary. The subject is intentionally misleading/sensationalized and that's all I commented on. I would imagine that when most people hear the phrase "open fire", they don't think of rubber bullets. Yes, they've been known to blind and main when used improperly. And, based on my limited understanding, the cops in this video appear to be using them improperly.

Hooker - 2012-07-23

People are being unfair to the police who attacked citizens without provocation.

spikestoyiu - 2012-07-23

Christ. I should have known better.

zerobackup - 2012-07-23

It's ok, maybe next time they will just ziptie their hands behind their backs and taze them while they lay on the ground, or pepper spray an asthmatic in a wheelchair. "Crowd Control" tactics like this are just begging for there to be a full scale riot in that city. History is doomed to repeat itself if no one pays attention...

zerobackup - 2012-07-23

Sorry Spike, watch the vid, rubber bullets or no rubber bullets shooting into a crowd of women and children and then letting a K9 go is Gestapo shit. Fuck these cops.

spikestoyiu - 2012-07-23

Seriously, where are you people even getting this stuff? YES, DEFINITELY PLEASE PEPPER SPRAY AN ASTHMATIC IN A WHEELCHAIR. THAT'S WHAT I WAS GETTING AT. For a website that is generally full of level-headed, intelligent people, you sure go off the deep end when attempting to discuss anything police-related.

First of all, is there any way we start by coming up with a different way of beginning our sarcastic replies other than "It's okay..."? No? Okay. Secondly, I felt it was pretty clear that I was addressing the SUBJECT of this video: it's deliberately misleading. Did anyone actually click on the link expecting anything other than live rounds? It's the kind of horseshit that this site would be lining up to give Fox News a hard time for.

CJH - 2012-07-23

its okay spike i too was secretly disappointed that i didn't get to see real women and children get ripped apart by live ammo. closet fascist bros 4 lyfe!

spikestoyiu - 2012-07-23

Oh, this guy.

CJH - 2012-07-23

hey bro you got time to help me with my groundwork? i got this new move i call the zimmerman

spikestoyiu - 2012-07-23

I see you've purchased my autobiography.

spikestoyiu - 2012-07-23

Wait, I mean BRO hahahahah

spikestoyiu - 2012-07-23

See, it works because I do a sport

Hooker - 2012-07-24

Of course it's deliberately misleading because FUCK THESE COPS. Holy shit. I do not for a second feel like using the most measured and unequivocal language to describe police officers firing rubber bullets at civilians for the crime of being outside in numbers.

I'm not even one of the "fuck all police" guys. I understand and appreciate the need for a police force to society and sympathize with what can be a staggeringly dangerous and stressful job. BUT FUCK THESE SPECIFIC COPS.

Hooker - 2012-07-24

Actually, on second thought, I'm only going to agree that it's misleading. I don't think it's deliberately so.

spikestoyiu - 2012-07-24

I never suggested that the submitter use a more accurate title for the benefit of the cops involved. Deliberately misleading is a bad look. I figured this particular website was better than that.

Meerkat - 2012-07-23

How can they possibly justify this?

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-07-23

They are cops. Their targets aren't.

There may also be a correlation to reruns of "Dancing With The Stars," but I'd have to see local listings to be sure.

spikestoyiu - 2012-07-23

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2012/07/anaheim-police-fire- non-lethal-rounds-at-angry-crowd.html

The abridged version: after a separate incident in which one of three men who were being chased by police was shot dead, a group of people surrounded the cops and began to throw things at them. According to this article, and I suppose the police, the dog somehow got out of the K-9 vehicle on its on. That actually seems plausible based on the video.

jreid - 2012-07-23

It's okay, they're only latinos.

fractured - 2012-07-23

I suggest looking at more videos of k9 units. Their more extreme use involves just letting have at whoever and then getting them back before shit gets too crazy.

spikestoyiu - 2012-07-23

I'll take your word for it because watching a half dozen or so K9 attack videos will probably ruin my day. With that said, it still appears to me as if he's running after the dog the entire time. It seems 100% uncontrolled.

Robin Kestrel - 2012-07-24

How they justify all police violence: the officers felt threatened. That seems to be the magical all-purpose do-what-the-hell-you-want license if you are a cop.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-07-23

I grew up just down the street from there. Holy fuck this is madness. They weren't doing anything.

Riskbreaker - 2012-07-23

What pisses me off is how long it takes them to actually explain what the hell happen, we have to see the footage of the madness going on over and over, and see people crying and freaking out. Way to not exploit this thing you fuckers.

craptacular - 2012-07-23

welcome to america

Cherry Pop Culture - 2012-07-23

If this is just the recorded stuff, think of all the things we don't even see

Old_Zircon - 2012-07-23

I've got to say, if their goal was to distract the media from the fact that they SHOT A FLEEING SUSPECT (regardless of what he may or may not have done, when someone is not only not threatening you but running from you, acceptable police procedure does not include shooting at them), then I guess mission accomplished.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-07-23

Offered to buy their video. Yeahhhh nice try pigs.

Snakeweapon - 2012-07-23

Let's go to Mrs. Herbie Pulgar for her description of the incident.

Chocolate Jesus - 2012-12-05

Thats a deep cut.

FreeOJ - 2012-07-23

Oh Orange County.

That guy - 2012-08-25

I'm sadly from Orange County and I apologize.

sosage - 2012-07-24

Fire rubber bullets into a crowd of strollers...and let's just let our controlled aggressive animal loose so he can almost claw n' trample someone's baby just in case one of them has a gun.

zerobackup - 2012-07-30

But dude, the cops have the right to use whatever tactics they want when they completely fuck up and are trying to cover their own asses after killing a fleeing suspect. It's right there in the police handbook next to "Don't snitch on fellow officers (protect any kind of corruption to show loyalty)". How many cops have fucking KILLED someone in the line of duty, there was an internal investigation and they are given "2 weeks unpaid leave". Fuck that, you should at very least lose your badge, if not go to criminal trail after something like that. Just because you enforce the law does not put you above it.
