but it's coming net year...right?

MrBuddy - 2012-08-04

I thought they stopped doing World's Fairs in the 1960s or something.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-08-02

All of their hard work and dedication, permanently reduced to a generation's joke about a wig store.

Riskbreaker - 2012-08-02

ARE YOU GOING TO BUY A WIG OR WHAT?!

Cena_mark - 2012-08-02

Didn't they mean the Wigsphere?

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2012-08-02

Hey, who has better vacation ideas than AAA? According to the publisher of their guidebooks, no one.

Xenocide - 2012-08-02

We've arrived in the vast cornfields of Canada!

This thread is just going to turn into us reciting that entire episode out of order. I am incredibly okay with that.

YOU ARE HEARING ME TALK.

spikestoyiu - 2012-08-02

No, Bart has never been to Hong Kong. Goodnight.

Billy the Poet - 2012-08-02

And I thought that I'd be the clever boy who made the Simpsons connection. I guess I'm just a dorcus malorcus.

BiggerJ - 2012-08-03

Cognitivedissonance's comment got me thinking - what do the people of Knoxville think of that episode? Are they like Brazil's tourist board, who tried to sue Fox over Brazil's deptiction in an episode?

cognitivedissonance - 2012-08-03

Just think, in the space of however many seasons, Bart actually HAS been to Hong Kong. And it was dreary and repetitive.

B_Ko - 2012-08-03

I lived in Oak Ridge, right outside of Knoxville when that episode aired. We got a namedrop and it made me giddy as shit.

Yeah, there's jack shit to do here.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-08-03

Ahh, B Ko, I think its a pretty great place to live, really. There's actually a pretty good art scene in Knoxville, and its close enough to Nashville and Asheville that you can get to good shows without too much hassle. Also, the Smoky Mountains are always amazing.
Sure, we have a lot of ugly shit too, like horrible rednecks and meth. Not to mention that my vote has never counted, ever. But, I like it here better than most places in the South.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-08-02

And everyday I still have to see the Sunsphere, looming through the air pollution.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-08-02

Has anyone done the math on how long that thing is supposed to stay up?

B_Ko - 2012-08-03

Holy shit Jet Bin, you live in Knoxville too?

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-08-03

Yep. Most of the year anyway. I think there are a lot of TN folks on PoE actually.

HarrietTubmanPI - 2012-08-02

Knoxville isn't a bad town to live in. However, the art left over from the world's fair shows up in the strangest places.

16,000 boxes of unsold wigs.

kingarthur - 2012-08-02

I remember the 84 World's Fair from when I was a wee kid. Shortly thereafter, New Orleans demolished most of the leftovers. I still remember that pelican in a blue top hat though.

memedumpster - 2012-08-02

I heard once that the World's Fair that Tesla went to had an automated machine that turned a live rabbit into a hat.

duck&cover - 2012-08-02

Any fur-bearing animal, really. You paid your nickel and stuffed in a rabbit, cat, dog, whatever and hey, presto, a tasteful new chapeau.
