Discriminated against based on "the color of the uniform..."

Eyerolls for everyone involved.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-08-16

I bet the comedy club down the street would welcome him with open arms!

Ghoul - 2012-08-16

"This incident had Cornelia disgusted, so much so she wrote a blog about it..."

That is the most "Portland" thing I've heard in my entire life.

gmol - 2012-08-16

Hmmm...I'll look up the actual blog and reply if I am wrong, but, a woman (who frequents an anarchist cafe) sees a police officer come in (just to hang out) and is horrified by the response of the owner...who then writes a blog post about it and gets a local news story....

One would have to guess there is some sort of collusion between the woman and the officer...

Racketeer - 2012-08-16

Here's the blog post in question:
http://www.corneliaseigneur.com/where-does-a-police-officer-go -for-a-cup-of-coffee/

Apparently the woman just wanted to go to a vegetarian restaurant with her daughter and decided to try this place out.

She's not even from Portland, she's from the 'burbs. Also, later the officer offered to take her on a ride-along and she turned it down because "[she was] afraid of what these police officers have to face during regular business hours on the streets of Portland."

baleen - 2012-08-16

Portland "anarchists" are themselves from the burbs... Of Wisconsin or wherever. They are a fat fucking joke and are generally complete assholes.

The Mothership - 2012-08-16

yes, everything about this screams Portland.

Blue - 2012-08-16

As a white person that can literally have people that make me angry imprisoned for "assault on a police officer" and "resisting arrest" and gets free coffee and hookers I know a lot about how segregation feels.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-08-16

I want to give you stars for that.

*****

Nikon - 2012-08-16

I'll give you stars for that.

sjohnson301 - 2012-08-16

Kicking out a police officer to look cool, indie, and edgy in Trendy Portland is immature and ass-hattish.

I have been assisting urban alcoholic homeless people for years via volunteer efforts at hospitals, sober houses, and halfway houses. Homeless people need help, many of them psychiatric help, and those who are taken into police custody are at the very least offered both mental and social services. Cafe owners like this guy who give them free scraps don't really help the homeless in the long run. Cafe owner is a douche and the officer has a good point, Jim Crow analogies or no.

/bleeding heart liberal here

Accidie - 2012-08-16

I worked at a needle exchange for 3 years with a bunch of filthy hippy anarchists. This cafe owner is just an idiot who's failed to see that the cop might actually be a person. A person who signed up for a job of every night dealing with people and situations that nobody else wanted to. Being a cafe owner is a much easier job.

spikestoyiu - 2012-08-16

I hope both of you are prepared to be called a "bootlicker" by the always level-headed hivemind of POETV.

Blue - 2012-08-16

Yes because what we really find offensive is that they're cops, not that they dragged a guy from his car and beat the shit out of him repeatedly and threatened to kill him and make it look like a suicide. No, the real problem is that they're cops, and we'd be equally angry if they were going to a coffee shop and ordering coffee.

Fine, I'll say it. This cop is a fucking decent human being. His reaction is not only appropriate, it's fucking inspiring. Good for him.

Adham Nu'man - 2012-08-17

BOOTLICKKKER!

This video is like a sketch from Portlandia.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-08-17

"He's a human being. I feel a human being was humiliated" could easily be lines from Portlandia.

endlesschris - 2012-08-16

If that cop wants respect he should pick a respectable profession.

Fezren - 2012-08-16

Yeah maybe he could start a pretentious failure of a cafe and kick people out who don't agree with his moronic political beliefs.

hughmanatee - 2012-08-16

Having cops at an anarchist cafe is not good for business. The owner's standing up for his customers and isn't that what the American Dream's all about?

Fezren - 2012-08-17

Having black people at the Cracker Barrel is probably not good for their business either.

And no, that isn't a common interpretation of the phrase "The American Dream".

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-08-16

That ONN logo is looking closer and closer to the CNN logo every day.

Hooker - 2012-08-17

I've been kicked out of places before. I got over it in a few minutes.

FreeOJ - 2012-08-17

Only in Portland

Fezren - 2012-08-17

This place will be out of business by the end of the year, but if you're interested in this sort of thing I hear somebody is about to open a pub in which customers "just pay whatever they think is fair" for the food and drinks they serve.
