This show is just really, really great. There's a point in this year's episodes where he goes back into science teacher mode (with the new blonde guy, I think), and in any other show I would think, "Alright, they're falling back into a comfortable habit here," but this show pulls it off so effortlessly. It wasn't a regression of the character, or lazy writing. It was showing that while Walt has lost his moral compass, he's still essentially the same person, which makes the story that much more tragic. He's the least evil person who had managed to become completely evil.

It's really so good.

I didn't think anything could top last season, but this most recent mini-season is at least as good.

the creators of this show asked for 24 or more episodes to end the storylines and got 16

so there have been some changes to characters that were perhaps slightly more rushed than they would have been in season past

Cranston pulls it off though, even when gung-ho drug king Walter decides to walk away

Part of what drives Walt is resentment over how he was bought out from Grey Matter, just before Elliot and Gretchen were able to turn it into a success. So Walt has been motivated to build an empire himself, now that he has the chance, and he's not about to let anyone take it from him.

Only thing is, Walt tends to destroy more than he builds; pretty much everyone and everything he touches falls apart. So while Walt is demonstrating he has the power to take on emperors, he couldn't be one himself. And if Grey Matter happened to hit it big shortly after Walt left, I suspect it's BECAUSE Walt left.

It should be noted, by the way, that Hank could probably let the matter drop and nobody anywhere would be the wiser. Walt's killed off pretty much everyone who might finger him, the drug sales are currently happening in the Czech Republic, the Heisenberg case is nothing but dead leads at this point, and Hank is literally the only drug agent sitting in the right spot to find that one last clue. So now he's got some decisions to make.

This show almost lost me with the season two finale. The whole 'air traffic controller loses his shit and causes a mid-air collision' bit really seemed to be too far-fetched in an otherwise real and believable world. That being said, I'm glad I stayed on board, and this final season has been pretty fantastic all around.

Gayle didn't even give him that nook it was Gretchen Black.

Aubrey McFate - 2012-09-11

Her name's actually Gretchen Schwartz. Schwartz is German for black. Also she never indicated an extreme love of Walt Whitman and would have no reason to write in Gale's handwriting. Don't know if you were serious or quoting some fan stuff, but it's a pretty thin idea in any case.

Worst theory.

Best show on tv.

I love this entire scene so much. It's amazing to watch Walt shift all the power behind the conversation from the distributor guy to himself.

The part where Walt introduces Jesse as the second best meth cook on earth ... usually the show is subtle about plot points it's setting up for later, but this felt pretty blatant. It identifies Jesse as someone that Declan can go after if he ever needs a good meth cook, which is a jerkass thing to do if Jesse is trying to get out of the game. Not that Walt is much into doing nice things for Jesse, but this is a dick move Walt wouldn't even benefit from.
