Oh God, yes.

EvilHomer - 2012-09-19

It's like Adbusters: The Movie.

Also, anyone know the backstory on this? Is it legit? The uploader claims it's the product of some super-sexy international spy stuff, but the day I trust a person on Youtube...

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2012-09-19

It's pretty obviously Western made and the Korean thing is just to drum up interest, this is totally incongruous with Korean propaganda

EvilHomer - 2012-09-19

PROPAGANDY 2012?

It certainly looks like it's made for Western audiences, particularly hip, paranoid Western audiences, and I'd wager no regular Koreans north of the DMZ have ever (or will ever) seen this. And you're right, it doesn't jive well with other examples of "leaked" North Korean propaganda- the style, the production value, the references and narrative style that only a Western observer would pick up on. But why would a Western filmmaker falsely claim his documentary was produced in the DPRK? It'd generate buzz, sure, but you'd be poisoning the well- I don't care how receptive your audience is to the film, tell them it's from North Korea and nobody will take it seriously.

Unless the point isn't to promote an anti-globalist message, but simply to generate pageviews?

Gojira1000 - 2012-09-19

That's not a DPRK product.

memedumpster - 2012-09-19

Oh man, where can I get the 0 shoe made of tires for this movie!?

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-09-19

Really surreal and both fun and hard to watch. There is a lot of truth and a lot of lies all sandwiched together.

jangbones - 2012-09-19

Yup, good propaganda has enough half-truths to be thought provoking.

Many countries in the world are so accustomed to the state having heavy control over all forms of media, they assume that the US governments simply must be directing private media in the west in some way. If you read Glenn Greenwald, maybe they have a point...

My magnificent and eternal 5 stars.

I was enjoying it until I had to see a bunch of dolphins get their throats slit. Dolphin death throes are fucking.... Depressing. That's when I knew that this, indeed, is north korean. nobody else hates Japan so much as to show that. By the way, I have never met a Japanese person who has eaten marine mammal, and I know quite a few of them. That is Japanese 1% chow, and they are having more and more difficulty controlling their 2channel powered, internet hive-minded "wise" dissenters as well.

Other thoughts: this whole thing reflects truth, but ignores that there is a growing "wise" contingent of well informed individuals thanks to the internet, though admittedly google well controls available information and facebook monitors the ignorant. The documentary, having its own agenda for propaganda, forces generalizations as fact and ignores dissenters in corporatist nations. Of course, it is true we are mostly powerless... But in the past we passed the civil rights act and small steps forward towards peace and acceptance are being made. No mention is made of the growing gay rights movement, for instance.

In conclusion and in summary, Mary Jane helps the world overcome racism. They who control the spice control the universe. Drink coffee every day, use the internet, and forget the hate with the herb. Thank you, DPRK.

memedumpster - 2012-09-19

This movie is CALLED "Propaganda." Evil genius.

Also, I hope this isn't North Korean, because if they start attacking us with the truth we're fucked.

EvilHomer - 2012-09-19

Yeah, because God knows what would happen if people like Chomsky and Zinn started teaching and writing best selling books over here.

Better keep a lid on this "Columbus was evil" and "Oprah makes you stupid" talk, or soon the masses may rise up and replace our decadent neoliberal oligarchy with glorious Juche socialism.
