The point of good satire or parody is to make the audience think deeper or diffferently about something they're already aware of. The Simpsons, when it was good, did that amazingly well. Not only does this kind of Simpsons not do that, it may actually make you think about superficial things with less insight.

This is a pretty good parody, but no need to oversell the backstory, people. Everyone knows this show went off the air in 1999.
Somebody really needs to post some of the crap from the new season of Fish Police, though. I think that season 21 is going to be the one where it finally starts to go downhill.

I didn't watch this, and I'm not going to, so I can't comment on this specific clip, but why do people flip out over celebrity guests being on the Simpsons anymore?
I mean the Simpsons has been terrible for well over the last decade, I'm not even going to defend their bullshit, but celebrities appearing on the Simpsons is by no means a new thing.
I can only draw the conclusion that people who bitch about it are either A: people who never actually watched the older seasons but cite them as being better anyway or B: Just looking for something else to hate on the show for, seeing as it's now cool to hate the Simpsons and no matter what the show does people are still going to hate it.

EvilHomer - 2012-09-17 I agree that hating on New Simpsons for using celebrity guests is pretty hypocritical (and besides, I like Lady Gaga a lot more than I like Sting, yet who can find fault with the boy-in-the-well episode?) But you have to remember: when guest stars showed up in the Old Simpsons, they contributed to the story. They were memorable, amusing. Now, the guest stars show up and just stand around, as if the writers are hoping their mere presence will make the show watchable. It's like SNL.
I mean, watch this, then watch Michael Jackson doing "Lisa It's Your Birthday". Maybe it's not "the guests", so much as it is "the writing", or "the soul". But hating on New Simpsons is a perfectly valid and healthy activity.

The Simpsons should've died in a horrible car crash 10 years ago. They could've had all the people in town mourning the loss of the family that somehow was involved in every tiny happening there. It could've ended with all the 100 or so bit characters filing past the Simpsons' coffins and saying their one-liners one by one by one.

I am a proponent of the idea that recent seasons of the SIMPSONS are neither as good as they were 20 years ago nor as bad as they were 10 years ago, but it's a rolling average and the LADY GAGA episode was one of the worst since "Saddlesore Galactica" (the one with the jockeys).
