Holy shit.

Springer is still on?

Old_Zircon - 2012-10-02

I came very close to being in the audience for a Springer taping this year, but I broke things off with the girl I was planning it with before we could get the tickets.

If you're in New England you should know that it's free and they film in Connecticut, but the waiting list is something like 8 months.

EvilHomer - 2012-10-02

They film in CT? Whereabouts?

Old_Zircon - 2012-10-02

Stamford

Cena_mark - 2012-10-02

Home of the WWE.

EvilHomer - 2012-10-02

Figures, it's always Stamford.

We may not have much in this state, but at least we've got Triple H and Linda McMahon.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-10-02

I'm not 3starring this because I am angry at it. I 3star it because I am bored with it.

Squeamish - 2012-10-02

My god. What incredibly boring people they must be.

Shoebox Joe - 2012-10-02

STFU BRONY HATER!! WE"RE BETTER THAN THESE!! THEY'RE ACTORS!!!!11

Xenocide - 2012-10-02

This video, like these responses, just smacks of trying too hard.

Old_Zircon - 2012-10-02

Meth stare.

EvilHomer - 2012-10-02

Any PoEny care to fill us in on the backstory here? There's a ton of Brony vitriol and crying foul over Springer "faking it" with actors. Is there any truth to these accusations?

Frankly, the woman wasn't convincing at all. She's too old and too a woman to be an actual Brony.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2012-10-02

Anyone who believes any percentage of Springer is real is a person who has lost connection with reality.

EvilHomer - 2012-10-02

It's still real to me, dammit.

Cena_mark - 2012-10-02

I think this started with the Howard Stern interviews. Howard sent one of his guys to interview Bronies at Bronycon and the subject of clopping came up. The bronies were horrified that the people interviewed by Stern were openly clopping and made the fandom look bad.
So I guess later Springer wanted to interview some bronies and apparently the rulers of the fandom ordered no one to go on the show. They must think their influence was so powerful that the only way Springer could get some Bronies was to fake it.

And you're right. That woman isn't a Brony. She's a pegasister. Get it right you dork.

Xenocide - 2012-10-02

The idea that Springer uses actors didn't exactly originate with bronies. Or in this decade.

It's kind of an open secret at this point. Springer (and Maury, and all the other shows of this type) sends out calls to the general public for his shows, but if no one interesting shows up, he gets some guy from the local community theater to pretend to be a transvestite Nazi dinosaur fetishist or whatever the topic is that day.

EvilHomer - 2012-10-02

But she's got a horn. Doesn't that make her a unicorn? I thought the pegasuses and unicorns were different.

Shoebox Joe - 2012-10-02

Well a majority of the belly aching and arguements about them being actors is how their cosplay costumes are terrible and how the guy dressed as Pinkie Pie called the woman Rainbow Dash, due to Dash being a pegasus, even though the clip is full of cuts and the fellow was giving the explanation of cosplay as "dressing up as individual characters of the show" and never really goes on to prove him awkwardly beating the explanation.

There's also people crying out that the show isn't about cosplaying and using that as an example as to why they're fake.

Hard for me to call it fake myself since I have a pretty bad bit of anxiety when it comes to talking to people like the woman there.

EvilHomer - 2012-10-02

Xenocide, true, but it's hard to find a suitably freakish transvestite Nazi. That Springer often uses actors and stages fights is a sad fact, but Springer-grade bronies should be a dime a dozen.

Cena_mark - 2012-10-02

But most cosplay costumes ARE terrible. The chick just probably bought the horn at a convention and probably added it to the costume to make it flashier.

badideasinaction - 2012-10-02

The cosplayers who have the lack of self-awareness to think going on Springer would be fine are the same ones that have the lack of self-awareness about their horrible costumes, so I find that part easy to believe.

The totally clueless person with the awesome costume is generally the exception, and the absolutely terrible costumes usually are worn by either the rank beginners, the very young, or the completely clueless.

That part's believable, but Springer could have found it easier to just hire ringers.

Xenocide - 2012-10-02

EvilHomer is correct that embarrassing bronies are easy to find.

What he forgets is that most of those people are also too soft-spoken and timid to have the presence needed to be entertaining on TV. Most of them are just going to stutter and play with their hands while not looking at the camera.

And as sad as it is, Shoebox Joe's point about the guy misidentifying Rainbow Dash is actually valid. If Springer did a show on Star Wars fans and the guy dressed as Han Solo came out and sad "I'm a character called Yoda. He is a servant of the Empire," no one would buy it. Nerds are too damn obsessive to make that kind of mistake.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-10-02

I had no idea that bronies were so organized as to have leaders.

I'm not sure whether to be amused or frightened. I am picturing the Head Brony at a nice desk in a nice office, complete with a giant oversized blue pony mascot costume as he belts orders at his much yelled at subordinates, who make clopping noises as they go out of the office to do his bidding, carry out his orders, spread hay on the carpet...

Shoebox Joe - 2012-10-03

@Xenocide, I might be repeating what you've discovered but I'm gonna go ahead since my brain is a horrid mish mash of absolute goop and abysmal diagrams of social incompetency and mid-life crisis.

I think the horned cosplay is the girl's OC. The Pinky Guy was cut off during his explanation of cosplay to answer what Pinky Pie does, then they edit cut to him saying Autumin is Rainbow Dash. Who is clearly not Rainbow Dash.

That is a new Rainbow Dash that would be scary as shit. Can you imagine one of the shows characters having a 24/7 Twilight Sparkle crazy face? While simply doing the most basic and mundane tasks with non chalance?

Shoebox Joe - 2012-10-03

Oh, and I found out the segment lasted for ten minutes, but the only person who recorded decided to dump it, possibly dumped it, because it was literally a camera pointed at the T.V.

Shoebox Joe - 2012-10-03

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL-FSZjgdEA

Here you go. I'm off to bed now.

Blue - 2012-10-03

I know someone that went on Springer. He doesn't need to hire ringers. They volunteer just to be on TV. The person that went on Springer was fucking springer level crazy, but she was pretending to be a different kind of crazy. I suspect that's probably really common.

smellslikefish - 2012-10-03

I can verify that at least the male brony is the genuine article.
