CaptainFun - 2012-10-03
I'm glad this email didn't bother her enough to make a 4 minute rant.
Also this chick's brother is Ron Livingston from Office Space.

chumbucket - 2012-10-03
I think we all know who at that studio runs the show.
StanleyPain - 2012-10-03
It's a good thing I have thick skin, otherwise I would have spent 4 minutes of network TV time giving this attention!

TeenerTot - 2012-10-03
Not sure if I agree the letter was bullying.
But she's clearly an educated, intelligent woman with a good job. That's not enough to be a good role model?
Enjoy - 2012-10-03 Yeah it's plenty. And the letter was a stupid thing to send. She has no idea what bullying is though if she thinks this was bullying.
Blue - 2012-10-03 She will.
Also, am I the only person that pronounces Enjoy's name with a slightly different emphasis than the actual word "enjoy"? For some reason I put the emphasis on the first syllable instead of the second.
TeenerTot - 2012-10-03 I read "Enjoy" that way, too!
Weird.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-10-03 The guy who sent the email was a dick. Obesity is "a choice" for people with unlimited time, money, and resources, but for everybody else, it's complicated. And you know what? Telling a woman that, because of her appearance, she shouldn't be appearing in public is hurtful, and could be interested as bullying, depending on the intent of the seller. I'd certainly call it "bullying" before I'd call it "respectful". Addressing it on the air like that, depending, I suppose, on the format of this show, is indeed somewhat courageous, and a public service.
However, I find this clip painful to watch, and impossible to sit through.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2012-10-03 Taking advantage of her job to try and publicly humiliate someone who slighted her is just as shitty an abuse of privelege as a skinny person mocking a fat person
John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-10-03 Boo fucking hoo. Maybe if this was about the restaurant that lost her reservation, but are you suggesting that she's being mean to the guy who sent her the nice letter?
Don't send an insulting letter to someone on TV if you don't want to see it discussed on TV.
I mean, the title of the letter was "community responsibility". Fuck him. I'm sure he thought he was being helpful. Fuck him twice.
EvilHomer - 2012-10-03 Don't be fat and go on TV if you don't want people discussing your weight.
Besides, he's not being mean TO her. He's not saying she's a terrible person for being an uncontrollable eatbeast. What she choses to do in the comfort of her own walk-in ice cream freezer is her own business. He's merely pointing out that, with her job being what it is, she should make an effort to be a better role model. And she should.
Come on. With all the fat kids out there, do we really need a butter golem with a fat pride complex encouraging them?

Blue - 2012-10-03
I feel so sorry for this woman. This email is fucking stupid, but it's nowhere near as bad as the response she's going to get from this being on Youtube, even if it doesn't go viral.
The Mothership - 2012-10-03 this came up in my facebooks; she is being championed as a strong woman standing up to nasty fatty-hating men.
John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-10-03 This is a great career move. If she manages to lose the weight and gets hot, she'll be on 20/20 in two years.
Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-10-04 If she gets fatter, I hope they give her one of those chairs from Wall-E, just to make it more dramatic.
Binro the Heretic - 2012-10-03
Her husband is the stupid prick, here.
Sounds like she was willing to ignore the email until he made it public.
Bort - 2012-10-03
She did have one good point in all this: children will learn what's acceptable from their parents.
That said, as a gigantic fatass myself (though getting smaller -- I'm finding success with bicycling, walking, and making sure I get enough protein), it's a stretch to call that letter "bullying". I'm not sure how she'd react if she received a missive from, say, Miguel.
"i'm a grown woman."
news lady is a secret balloon, no no don't explode the studio with your fupa attack!

Riskbreaker - 2012-10-03
Don't feed them, oh wait, you just did, way to go.
EvilHomer - 2012-10-03 Feeding is her nature.
Maggot Brain - 2012-10-03
Any one want to guess what this is really about? I'm betting that she just realized that her husband no longer finds her attractive but she can't bring her self to admit it.
EvilHomer - 2012-10-03 It's definitley something to do with the drama at home.
Ever seen that Sopranos episode? Where the greasy wiseass makes fun of that one guy's fat wife? So the guy goes apeshit, and the wife starts gorging on chocolates, dudes are about to get murdered, and it's all because of this pentup, unresolved fat-related tension?
That's what I think happened here. The two of them kept it in for way too long, and now that it's coming out, it's turning ugly.
spikestoyiu - 2012-10-03
Everyone involved in this is stupid.
Get off your soapbox, lady... BECAUSE YOU'RE BREAKING IT HEY HEY WOKKA WOKKA

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-10-03
Look at this from the point of view of the politics. People sending emails to the station about "community responsibility" are a threat to her job. TV reporters, especially women, are taken off the air for being fat all the time. She hit back, and it was a smart career move. That's probably how she's thinking about it, and she's right.
Bort - 2012-10-03 She would have done well to say something like the following, rather accuse the guy of bullying her:
"The person who sent this E-Mail was polite and didn't insult me, much. So kudos to him for that. But a lot of people are not so considerate, so let's talk for a minute about bullying."
CornOnTheCabre - 2012-10-03 although who am I kidding, i don't see anything wrong with what happened here. people are just wired to destroy perceived threats to their livelihood and dignity, then hide behind the unique privileges they're afforded.
play ball, I guess.
John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-10-03 I could be more critical of her, but i can't get past the idea that this cocksucker was 'respectful' and 'polite'. He said she's too fat to be on TV. There's no such thing as saying that politely. He said there her very existence is an unwholesome influence on children. There's no such thing as saying that politely.
Bort - 2012-10-04 JHM, I'm not saying the guy who sent the E-Mail was a friendly, well-intentioned guy. But she's putting this guy's comments in the same category as the hatred that occasionally makes the news when teenagers show their vicious side, and there's very little similarity. So it's only right to make a point of how much of a difference there is.
Rudy - 2012-10-03
Sorry lady, getting indignant isn't a form of exercise.
memedumpster - 2012-10-03
Wow, her husband is a douchebag.
Paracelsus - 2012-10-03
I think we can be both anti-bullying and anti-obesity.
dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-10-03
What kind of powered white yuppy ass pansy suburb did this woman grow up in where she thinks this is bullying?
spikestoyiu - 2012-10-03 If there's anything Americans enjoy more than cake frosting, it's being victimized.
SixDigitDebt - 2012-10-03
If you listen closely, you can hear the wavering tears in her voice.
poorwill - 2012-10-04
I realise this is a heavy issue but I'm not sure she weighed up the pros and cons of making a big deal out of it. fat.
frau_eva - 2012-10-04
To be fair to her, I think I'd be more upset and want to address a letter like this rather than a the typical trollish "lol fattie slit your throat faggot" message. The sender of the latter knows he's trying to harm people and doesn't care, and everyone can clearly see his intentions. But the guy writing this probably legitimately believes that he's doing some public service by telling women they're a bad role model simply for existing in public. It's the same hate rhetoric, but couched in "think of the (female *drool*) children" language that makes things seem acceptable to some people. People think they can say reprehensible things if they just couch it in the right bullshit, like tacking on "I'm not a racist, but..." does for racism.
joelkazoo - 2012-10-06 I'm reminded of the "Gentle Talk" guy in Home Movies, where he was trying to tell Brendon you can basically say anything you want if you precede it with "I feel it would be in your best interest if..." before anything you say.
spikestoyiu - 2012-10-04
Aaaand now the guy who sent this stupid e-mail (Stephen Colbert) gets to milk his fifteen minutes. Great work, all around, everyone.
