I hope Disney is ready for some very angry and Bible verse filled emails.

Quad9Damage - 2012-10-26

I can't wait for Bryan Fischer's shitfit and call for a boycott of Disney. Oh, the Christian butthurt. It will be delicious.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-10-26

Considering that one of the shows major plot points is apparently that the protagonist's best buddy has a mad crush on his female form, they should be delicious indeed.

I'm pretty surprised Disney greenlit this premise for a children's show, to be honest. But I suppose they have so many points against them with evangelicals already that...well, sometimes you just have to stop caring.

Hell, I remember women I worked with years ago flipping out and calling for a boycott of Spongebob Squarepants because of an episode where Spongebob and Patrick adopt a baby scallop and decide to be his parents with Spongebob as the mom, in drag. I totally need to find a way to make them aware of this show's existence and get their responses.

memedumpster - 2012-10-26

I don't get it, Loony Toons taught me that people in drag are awesome. How do you miss that as an American?

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-10-26

I pointed out this same fact about Bugs Bunny to the aforementioned women? Their response?

"But...but...that was DIFFERENT, it was meant to be FUNNY! Spongebob however, has an AGENDA!"

fedex - 2012-10-26

uhh...RANMA 1/2? HELLO?! BUELLER?

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-10-26

Oh, and never mind the fact that Bugs Bunny kissing other male characters on the lips, both in and out of drag, was hardly a rare occurrence.

Cena_mark - 2012-10-27

Anime doesn't count Fedex.

Quad9Damage - 2012-10-26

Lovely bigotry on YouTube.

Meerkat - 2012-10-26

Oh my stars and garters.

Billy the Poet - 2012-10-26

We live in interesting times.

Chalkdust - 2012-10-26

to say the least!

Chalkdust - 2012-10-26

so apparently this began as a segment on another Disney show, "Shorty McShort's Shorts", but I can't find the original

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-10-26

Sheza transvestite superhero and selling you merchandise at LIGHTNING SPEED!

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-10-26

Just from reading the comments, I thought maybe it might be something with a little merit to it.

Then I see that this is an attempt to break through gender stereotypes by emphasizing gender stereotypes turned up to 11. A lipstick lightsaber? Really?

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-10-26

"From reading the comments, I was afraid that I couldn't get offended by this. Boy, am I glad that wasn't the case."

badideasinaction - 2012-10-27

It's great - people will find ways to be offended by him changing into a girl, and by the painful stereotyping of the girl. It's a win-win!

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-10-27

I'm glad ol' Caminante is open-minded enough to assume that super-izing any female means they'd get a super-scream and super-slap.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-10-28

Sounds like it should have been a super whine, instead.

Merzbau - 2012-10-26

Oh man. This looks terrible, but a fairly normal kind of banal kiddie-crap terrible. And as someone who caught all kinds of shit for growing my hair long and wearing nail polish to school, I kind of hope this gives Tony Perkins or Tim Wildmon or one of those shitbirds a fatal coronary on live TV.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-10-26

So this is like an American version of Utena, then?

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-10-26

Ironically, the U.S. needs a lot more sexual and emotional repression to make that kind of thing even close to mainstream.

Pope Caius - 2012-10-26

I'm more worried about how TV Tropes will respond to this.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-10-26

As I've often stated, the main page will snark/categorize it just fine.

If you want to delve into the areas where "Troper Tales" come from, that's your own lookout.

Zoot42 - 2012-10-26

Do you guys not remember Cyber Six?
I looked this show up and they haven't said they are releasing it in America and a Toronto company has the rights to it.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2012-10-26

Halifax's DHX Media just distributes SheZow! outside of Australia.

SheZow!'s an Australian/American co-production, which surprises the hell out of me. I thought it was conventional wisdom that only Canada could make cheap-looking Flash/Toon Boom cartoons.

Cena_mark - 2012-10-26

I'll bet that ring also makes him like My Little Pony.

Jim Quin - 2012-10-26

At 0:09 in the middle segment of the screen is that the kid dressed as a tampon? Because holy fuck. Holy fuck. And you just know they're going to shitcan Gravity Falls in favour of 24-hour marathons of this bullshit because it looks and feels cheaper and won't require its audience to think about shit or understand references to things older than themselves.

Chalkdust - 2012-10-26

I would be surprised if they dropped Gravity Falls this early on, it's among their best-reviewed AND most-watched shows, tailing just behind Phineas and Ferb. On a few weeks, it's been the #1 scripted show on any cable network.

Chalkdust - 2012-10-26

*#1 for Friday shows, not across the entire week necessarily

BHWW - 2012-10-26

Wow, this looks terrible. I mean, seriously terrible, a only just slightly more spiffed up version of one of those really cheap cartoons from the 90s.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-10-26

"If dad finds out he'll have a cow!"

(cue lhypermasculine cop father)

Ok, this show is going to be fucking awesome.

themilkshark - 2012-10-27

I'm with you.

Remember Disney's Teacher's Pet: The Series? This will be even less remembered.

themilkshark - 2012-10-27

So this cartoon, right down to the punk rock theme song, is intentionally recalling Cartoon Network's Johnny Test. What's funny is that Johnny Test already covers gender roles and progressive representations of gender identity. Johnny was turned female a number of times on the show by his scientist sisters. We're talking full gender reassignment. Cartoons are getting crazy. Remember when Ren and Stimpy was considered shocking?

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-10-28

"Remember when Ren and Stimpy was considered shocking?"

Maybe it's just because I grew up in liberal Southern California, but no, I don't recall anyone ever being shocked by Ren and Stimpy.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-10-28

I remember seeing a bunch of assholes on the news being shocked by Ren & Stimpy.
