Which reminds me, for one of my comp. sci. grammars and automata courses one of the assignments was to design a language so I designed a language called Fortean that was similar to Fortran but you had to use non-deterministic grammars to produce unexpected results.

E.g.

INTEGER PI;

3 + PI = SPACEMAN;

RESULT PI;

Would Print:

"IT IS A MYSTERY"

Meerkat - 2012-11-03

I got a D in that course. The professor was kind of a humourless douche.

tgn1412 - 2012-11-03

for you, dear.

B. Weed - 2012-11-03

I'm sorry your professor didn't get the gag.

memedumpster - 2012-11-03

You dared touch a computer as one who knows while maintaining an individual personality? You were a risk to the entire technological idiom and had to be stopped!

Meerkat - 2012-11-03

I wasn't stopped, or even slowed down. My thesis for my AI course was an expert system written in LISP that drove buses. It would randomly stop at 7-11 for 5 minutes if some percentage of bus riders were in a hurry, slam on the brakes at yellow lights if people were standing up, and peel away from stops if passengers were running to catch it.

It was fucking eerie.

memedumpster - 2012-11-03

That's awesome!

kingarthur - 2012-11-04

I look forward to the day when you unleash your ghost buses on an unsuspecting populace.

Pillager - 2012-11-03

I like how Lovecraft might have inspired all this;

Lef - 2012-11-03

excellent link, and like how they imply Jerry Lewis is a Bent Genius

"Lovecraftian fiction became increasingly popular in Europe, where the French embraced him as a bent genius, much as they embraced Edgar Allan Poe and would soon embrace Jerry Lewis. Lovecraft became especially popular with the French magazine Planète, which throughout the 1960s reprinted Lovecraft’s stories in French translation."

How come "Ancient Aliens" never bother building anything in countries where white people lived? Why is it that we're totally ok with Romans engineering that gives us aqueducts and huge domes, but should anyone in Mesoamerica use math to build anything its "ALIENS"

Why, it's almost as if at its core, the whole concept of "Ancient Aliens" is incredibly racist!

memedumpster - 2012-11-03

Aliens are racist against white people because they are secretly agents of the Darkie Satan who is against God.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-11-03

No wonder all the Assassin's Creed games have that "WE'RE NOT RACIST!" warning in the beginning.

BorrowedSolution - 2014-01-19

It has more to do with the fact that we still have enough archived evidence of how Romans and other folk built their huge structures than anything else. Even these incredibly stupid people know better than to try to argue when there's actual written evidence contradicting their claims. They only act in areas where questions can still be asked in a drive-by-shooting style.

CIWB - 2012-11-03

The narrator sounds like the guy who narrated those 30 second educational clips at the end of The Mysterious Cities of Gold.

Billy the Poet - 2012-11-04

I saw through this shit when I was in seventh grade.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-11-04

Yeah, seventh grade me was obsessed with this in a pre-ironic way. I knew it was bullshit but I loved that it existed. It seemed so alien and exotic to me. I read every book on ghosts and monsters I could find, aliens just fit right in there.

Old_Zircon - 2012-11-04

Same here. Even now I like this stuff a lot, but there was never a time in my life when I actually fell for it.

memedumpster - 2012-11-04

I too love this stuff for its wild batshittery and spent a lot of my youth reading crazy as fast as I could get it. Thanks to poeTV I've slowly begun collecting the Unarius books when I see them at dirt malls and used book stores.

bac - 2012-11-04

this is why science needs plausible deniability. also needs a fanfiction tag.

bac - 2012-11-04

and a "chariots of the gods" tag without a qeistion mark.

Old_Zircon - 2012-11-04

...and that is how Serious Sam came to be.

Old_Zircon - 2012-11-04

Stars are for the music. The music is great.

BHWW - 2012-11-04

Now, Erich van Daniken wasn't saying it was Ancient Aliens, but...oh wait, he did.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-12-10

I read the book when I was very young, like 12 or something. I got burnt by it as it was one of the first purportedly non-fiction books I ever read. I was waaay into it and swallowed the pill totally. Though, few months later I got over it, I also learned a good lesson early there not to be taken in by things to easily.

Old_Zircon - 2014-07-27

Much higher quality version submitted as an update.
