My speakers kept crackling during this. I had to load up another video to make sure they didn't break last night or something. 5 stars for that alone.

You can tell nothing remotely resembling the interface of an actual musical instrument went into this. This is point and click music, and why software written music isn't music. It's audio paint by numbers.

This sucks really bad.

takewithfood - 2012-11-17

To be fair, the original GameBoy was pretty limited in it's.... oh, this was on the DS? Oh....

Sudan no1 - 2012-11-17

Shitting in Sonic fans' ears.... I can almost respect that, Bioware.

I like to think they were secretly trolling the whole fan base. Good god that's awful.

I don't know why no company ever has managed to recreate the perfect formula for turn based RPGs that was Super Mario RPG. I mean it seems super simple; minigames or inputs for extra damage, otherwise, deal an okay amount of base damage. Every game I've ever seen after it either does nothing at all and is boring to play (See every Final Fantasy ever, except 8, which sucked for other reasons), or decides to take things too far like the concept you just described.

While I'm ranting, why can't anyone recreate Chrono Trigger's awesome idea either? Skills that have different areas and effects so they have a variety of uses, the ability to combine them, and a replay mode with a few extra endings. Is it really that hard to see why these games were so awesome?

That was meant to be a reply to Redford. It's late.

So, this game. This is a very bad game. I mean seriously. The first place you go is the green hill zone. When you get there, you find an old man chopping wood. The first thing you do in a sonic RPG is of course perform a 10 second quest where you help an old man chop logs. The difficulty curve is utterly broken. You do not earn rings (money) from beating random encounters, and must instead find them sitting around meaning there is a finite amount of money you can collect in the game. When you use special skills you have to perform what is basically an osu-style minigame and if you ever miss a single move, the skill backfires and you've wasted your turn. Some of the later characters are neigh-unusable because their skills have so many icons it's almost impossible to hit them with 100% accuracy.

I expected it to be a good game because Bioware made it, but apparently the curse of Sonic '06 was still destroying everything made in the franchise even by proxy when this was released. Thankfully, the next thing released was Sonic Colors, and that was a Rather Good Game.

Have you ever played Sonic Rush on DS? I quite enjoyed that one, it's a traditional 2D game. This game, Chronicles, had potential to be decent. Obviously BioWare didn't give a fuck. Sega's only requirement for a Sonic game is that the hedgehog is blue. This game really should have been canned.

Music was the last thing Sonic had going for him.

Bootymarch - 2012-11-17

Hideki naganuma of jet grind radio fame did the music for the other sonic ds game, so I guess it balances out

They obviously care about this series as much as I do.

spiteful crow - 2012-11-18

This isn't even Game Boy quality, this is "shitty Chinese knockoff Game Boy with 200 variations of Tetris and nothing else" quality.

themilkshark - 2012-11-18

I'm sure Chris Chan loves the hell out of this game. When he sees Sonic's bar of quality lower more and more, it's just getting closer and closer to the reality of Sonichu.
