The interplay between Mack and Mitchell (with assist from Brydon) is the reason why I have watched every episode of this show, which in theory should be a horribly stupid show, but it isn't.

Same here. They really do play off each other so well, and the Brydon episodes have been the best so far.

baleen, watch the Buzzcocks episode with Lee Mack as guest host and Noel Fielding as a team captain. The "Intros" round, especially. Lee Mack reminds me of an old vaudeville guy, which makes Mitchell the perfect straight man.
