My hate for this guy just grew exponentially - and gained rationale.

GuyCorngood - 2012-12-08

"Inman’s version of a creative risk came recently; instead of just pandering to the Internet’s love of cats, he made a comic about his dog. 'That was in my notebook for two years,' Inman said. 'I thought, this is no good, people don’t — dogs aren’t funny. You can’t make dogs funny. It’s impossible. People can’t relate.'"

It's amazing how no matter how many times he gives this spiel and is very transparent about how shitty he is, people just love his crap more and more.

sosage - 2012-12-08

It's like a real life Dennis Reynolds from Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Including the diabolically side ways fucked up plan to make money. The difference being he is successful.

BHWW - 2012-12-08

The Oatmeal is somebody figuring out a way to make money off of a cross between every Reddit meme ever and those emails that relative of yours still keeps forwarding to everyone she knows from her AOL account.

Welcome to white man lovefest 10

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-12-09

I've never heard of "The Oatmeal" and after Googling it for a bit I don't feel any the wiser.

Bourbon doesn't help I suppose.

EvilHomer - 2012-12-09

Ditto. This is the first I've heard of this Oatmeal thing, and I'm not about to learn more, dagnabbit.

A cursory examination suggests that it's a webcomic for the sort of people who find Uncyclopedia funny.

"When thinking of a subject to write about for the website, he picks something that he is interested in and writes around it. He usually works at home, but as he finds it difficult to do in long periods because of the lack of social contact, he often goes to a coffee shop to work. Inman finds that it is much easier to gain exposure for his work with the web than it would have been 20 years ago. He enjoys making people laugh with his work, and although he notes that he cannot actually see the reaction of others to his work, he still appreciates seeing the high number of page views that his website receives.[5]

As of 2010, the website got an average of 4.6 million unique visitors[4] and more than 20 million page views a month.[4] Inman and his website were featured on an episode of Last Call with Carson Daly.[3]"

It's like every sentence has been carefully designed to piss you off more than the last one, steadily ramping up the hostility you feel towards this man. I really hope it's some kind of Kaufmanesque joke.

Hooker - 2012-12-09

He felt like Tesla was interesting and someone should talk about him. :|

This guy represents one of the two types of people that I truly cannot stand. Both types are people that think they have a sense of humour but don't. The first, which doesn't apply to him (maybe it does; I dunno) is people who are always making jokes but have a big list of things that people just shouldn't joke about. The other type of person, which describes this person exactly, are people that don't understand that humour is supposed to illuminate, however dimly. The idea is to make people look at something in a different way, even if that different way isn't really valuable. These people seem to take almost a formula approach to making jokes, and often lift their ideas directly from somewhere else. People that just endlessly plug in pre-existing jokes from The Simpsons and South Park, for instance.

The fact that other people claim people like these types of people have a great sense of humour is agony to me.

dick cream

TheOtherCapnS - 2012-12-09

I don't get it. Everyone seems to be just coming on here and feeling completely justified for disliking this guy for no other reason than what appears to me to be outright jealousy.

What is the reason to hate this guy besides the fact that he is a content provider that none of you like, who is enjoying a large amount of success? It doesn't seem like he's using the Internet to do anything annoying or intrusive, and it doesn't seem like he's doing anything unethical. So he's got good web- and business-savvy...

FABIO - 2012-12-09

It's just lamenting the sad testament that the most successful internet business models are all ultimately based on the lame chain email jokes people send you.

FABIO - 2012-12-09

Simpler put: nobody likes seeing mediocrity rewarded.

Millard - 2012-12-10

I...agree? I don't get all the bitching, except from some "I don't like popular things" petulance kind of things. The guy aims to be successful and apparently is, and he's a hell of a lot better than the bulk of the webcomics around now.

Hooker - 2012-12-10

You really don't understand why people don't like shameless marketing types?

misterbuns - 2012-12-31

Your sense of humor makes so much more sense now.

Corpus Delectable - 2012-12-10

What a bland man. What bland "humor". What a bland audience.

5 bland stars for being so precisely lukewarm.
