Everyone knows the proper way to deal with imps is the shotgun. 1 star!

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2012-12-16

It's one thing to imitate Rankin-Bass' ThunderTigerSilverHawksSharksCats formula, quite another to overlay that with Sunbow's insane writing.

FABIO - 2012-12-17

Sunbow, or Chris Latta? (playing both the main villain AND the lackey!)

A tooooom! An ancient toooom!

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-12-17

So this is where Dr. Manhattan ended up.

Shoebox Joe - 2012-12-17

That was a terrible surprise birthday party! Where was the giant pin the tail on the donkey? Where was the giant punch bowl? No wonder I couldn't remember this cartoon.

EvilHomer - 2012-12-17

Yeah yeah, laugh at this show, but the TOYS?! Screw you guys, Visionaries had the most badass toys. That's gotta count for something, right?

Binro the Heretic - 2012-12-17

I had to look this up. They came out way after I had stopped being interested in toys, but my little sister did get me one for my birthday because she thought I would find it cool. And truthfully, I DID, much to my surprise.

It looked like a little purple jawa with a glow-in-the-dark sword as tall as the figure itself. The whole front of the jawa robe was open exposing what looked like a shiny black surface. When you pulled the thing out of the little robe, and held it to the light, you could see a hologram of a little old wizard and when you turned it slightly to the left, the wizard became an owl wearing granny glasses.

As action figures go, it was pretty lame. Only the arms were articulated and were attached to the robe thingy. As holograms, though, it was really detailed and had a good feeling of depth and dimension. I'm guessing they actually sculpted the little figures and did the laser holographic photography thing on them.

Unfortunately, the figure didn't hold up well. I found it when I was going through the stuff in my storage locker. The plastic robe is severely discolored with dark spots that almost look like mildew. The hologram is a sticker and has become brown & cloudy and peeled up along the edges.

A summary for anyone on the fence:

Visionaries is your typical 80s toy commercial. In this episode, a battle unleashes ancient mischievous imps who play pranks by controlling hair growth, turning people into giant blueberries, controlling pigs, etc. The heroes defeat the hair one by chasing him around with giant barber tools, and the pig one eats himself to death when they throw him a birthday party with giant cake which seems like just an excuse to break out some maracas.

I haven't been able to find the most fucked up GI Joe episode ever: There's No Place like Springfield, where Shipwreck gets his mind utterly fucked with.

Shoebox Joe - 2012-12-17

Crap! I not only ruined my reference but didn't notice the maracas.

I'm a failure as a nerd.

EvilHomer - 2012-12-17

You forgot to include Holograms. You can't summarize Visionaries without mentioning holograms!
