This is one of the few MST3Ks that I personally can't stomach, and it's not for lack of trying. I like how "MST3K saturation point film" is a wildly disparate, deeply personal variable.

This one is pretty rough. I prefer the Mexican one where Santa is fighting Pitch the demon.

Hmm. For about 3 years, shortly after discovering torrents, I had every episode ever. I would watch any time I had time to kill and within a few months had seen all the episodes. Then I started putting them on as I fell asleep almost every night, sometimes watching intently, sometimes zonking out quickly. I started to subconsciously predict the joke beats, remember all the gags and skits. After I moved from Korea to Thailand two years ago, I downloaded it all again on the new hard drive I put in my computer (my old drive had so much pirated stuff I'd never take it through customs) and intended to continue the tradition...but it died. Even now, I try to watch a whole episode and I only do about 20 minutes before I get distracted by something else. It's not that I don't like it, it still stacks up as my favorite show of all time, I just...kinda had enough and any more feels like bloat. I feel a bit the same about Rifftrax and likely would about Cinematic Titanic if they put out more that one movie a year.

Except I will still watch this, the other MST3K Christmas movie and the Rifftrax Star Wars Holiday Special one a year. With my dad when I can. I get to show him the Star Wars one this year, I'm really looking forward to that.

I can't stand anything post 1980. "Overdrawn at the Memory Band" "Merlin's shop of Magical Whatever"

This is a delight, though the Mexican Santa Claus trumps this. I can watch vintage Mexican horror or children's films straight up, no riffing. They rock!

"Smoking is good for you".

"Ah, Mr. Claus. You have a very nasty habit of surviving."

StanleyPain - 2012-12-20

This one and the Mexican one, Santa Claus, are holiday traditions for me. The new Rifftrax Christmas for this year (The Magic Christmas Tree) isn't so bad either.

For some bizarre reason, they showed this on a projector screen in grainy red tinted glory once a year at the grade school I went to, and this was in the mid 80s. Raw, with no side comments. I distinctly remember this as being one of my weirder memories there. Also, we had atomic bomb drills alongside earthquake drills. It's like they never left behind the 50s manual on "things kids should do".

cognitivedissonance - 2012-12-21

I am the oldest sibling of three, and I cannot convince my siblings that nuclear drills were ever a thing that happened to me. Of course, we also had volcano drills, because I lived within operating memory and smoke-fall distance of Mt. St. Helens.

When I was a little kid, this movie was routinely played by one of the local stations (back in the prehistoric days when local stations stopped showing network programming after about 8pm and just showed their own syndications or just random crap from their film vault) as a "Christmas favorite" and I never understood why. When I was little, I thought it was a dreary, humorless movie. When the MST version came (which I saw when it originally aired) I was pleased that something I thought that was so obscure was getting riffed on the show.

My dad actually took me and my brother to see this when I was five. I had one of those guns that made people freeze. It was a Whammo Air blaster.
