OK, I'll start: If only he had his guns to protect himself, this terrible tragedy could have been avoided...

Assault rifles are a grasshopper's only defense against social spiders.

Well if it isn't Gmork, our resident gun expert!

PS I'm sorry that it seemed like I was celebrating this guy's death. This particular gun nut didn't deserve it. Don't shoot me.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-01-13

I read the huffpo article on this and found that while some posting there were a little gleeful sounding at this guy's death, I think none of the "more guns solve everything" crowd got the idea that this kind of shows that guns really aren't a defensive measure. They didn't stop him from being shot, and unless a gun happens to be on your person right where a bullet strikes, they won't protect you when someone else fires first.

I'm not sure why they think being armed puts you on an equal footing. Not every exchange (if there even is a chance to shoot back) is set up like a high noon shootout where everyone knows who's going to shoot at who and when.

Comeuppance - 2013-01-13

Guns as a self-defense tool are kinda unrelated to this story, it seems. There were apparently many guns near and around his body, and there was no sign of struggle or anything. Sounds like he was showing some of his collection and was shot.

No self-defense tool prevents someone from shooting you when you're not anticipating an attack.

Gmork - 2013-01-13

The only thing ironic about this story is that the people in question (FPSrussia's manager and the actor himself) are examples of gun knowledge, experience and safety. Having a lighthearted and gimmicky youtube channel where the kid in them gets to try new guns and blow stuff up does not somehow make them 'radicals' it makes them imaginative and harmless.

Seriously, you'll rejoice for the death of some random business owner who had a family and kids and probably never shot another person in his life? On the basis of him having a different career and hobby than you would have chosen for yourself?

Oh, that's right, it's because of your undefendable claim that you're right in agreeing with the push for sweeping gun legislation that will never, ever, affect a criminal's abilities to obtain guns and kill people with them?

For fucks sake have the decency to smell your own hypocrisy. You're a good-hearted democrat right up until it comes to people who don't outright hate guns like you do, then fuck them they deserve to be shot in the head for owning a gun story and running a youtube channel?

Gmork - 2013-01-13

store*

also not a response to you, meant for general

Bort - 2013-01-13

"Oh, that's right, it's because of your undefendable claim that you're right in agreeing with the push for sweeping gun legislation that will never, ever, affect a criminal's abilities to obtain guns and kill people with them?"

Yes, because if there's anything emotionally-troubled loners like Adam Lanza have, it's limitless contacts in the world of gun trafficking. Adam was clearly interested in buying his own gun or he wouldn't have gone to Dick's Sporting Goods first (where he was turned down because he wasn't amenable to a background check or a waiting period); why didn't he turn to any of these innumerable black market gun merchants he supposedly knew?

Adham Nu'man - 2013-01-14

For the record: I like guns and enjoy shooting (I own a shotgun myself and live on a farm and enjoy shooting even just for fun), I still think that having guns readily and easily available to all of the general population is a bad idea.

I am not in favor of a total gun ban, but definitely in favor of much greater control over the gun market.

It is also true that many on the right are also now claiming that they want more control on the market, but my feeling is that they are dishonest, and have only come to claim that recently as a source of constant pressure from the left, and that nothing towards further control will be achieved if the matter rested solely in the hands of the right.

I'm hoping that the ridiculous wails of appeals to emotion that both sides are making on the issue, a level of additional control will be achieved, without resulting in a total outright firearms ban.

GovtCensor - 2013-01-14

This debate is 90 times more sophisticated than 90% of gun debates on Huffpo, so five stars to Steam for bringing it to the appropriate forum.

Bort - 2013-01-14

HuffPo is a toilet.

My favorite thing on HuffPo is when they slap a misleading headline on a story, or they just plain screw up and put an unrelated headline on a story. The comments are invariably 95% knee-jerk reactions to the headline, because why bother to let information get in the way of telling the world what you think? We urbane sophisticates here at poeTV have our prejudices and biases, but at least most of us watch the video, or else we get called on it pretty quickly.

Gmork - 2013-01-14

Bort if you honestly believe he would NEVER EVER HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANOTHER GUN you're an idiot. It's just that simple. You dont need UNDERGROUND BLACK MARKET GUN CONTACTS to find a gun show.

Bort - 2013-01-14

I don't know how to break this to you, Gmork, but there are no absolutes in life. No amount of gun control can guarantee that a criminal will NEVER EVER get ahold of a gun. But only an idiot would argue that making it much more difficult wouldn't make it much more difficult.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2013-01-13

how about no

Gmork - 2013-01-13

Lets ignore the fact in the last few months several stories showing people who have successfully defended themselves from intruders using guns (one was an AR-15). Let's never show those stories, because they don't help your arguments at all! Boo on that! Let's cherry pick!

Koda Maja - 2013-01-14

Go ahead and submit some fucking videos for "those stories" then.

God you are boring.

Bort - 2013-01-14

There's one story where a mere boy scared off some robbers with an AR-15. So, good for him. But since no bullets were actually fired, the boy could have done just as well with any other firearm. Toy firearms might have worked too.

The only time a person could say "thank God I had an AR-15 because I really needed its awesome firepower for my own defense" is if you're trying to ward off wave after wave of Soviets, zombies, or police officers.

Surely you remember Hossam back in Baghdad, don't you? Google for "Hossam, bring the Kalashnikovs"; it will bring back memories.

Gmork - 2013-01-13

Meanwhile, the dumbass idea to SHOW WHAT PRIVATE CITIZENS OWN GUNS LEGALLY AND EXACTLY WHERE THEY LIVE caused (GASP!) the temptation for criminals to PURSUE said guns!

WOW WHO WOULD EVER HAVE THOUGHT SUCH A GENIUS IDEA OF SHOWING WHERE GUN OWNING CITIZENS STORE THEIR GUNS COULD EVER HAVE ENDED IN A CRIMINAL GETTING THEIR HANDS ON THAT INFORMATION AND USING IT FOR ILLEGAL PURPOSES?!

What dastardly masterminds! It's alright though, because GOOD INTENTIONS were behind the spreading of that information!

Just like there's nothing but GOOD INTENTIONS behind the confiscation-after-death bullshit. Right.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2013-01-13

You sound upset...

Adham Nu'man - 2013-01-14

"They are investigating closely to see what role, IF ANY, that gun map had on what happened here at his home on Saturday night"

News reporter "We have no idea if there is a relation or not but here, look at my cellphone with thousands of red dots, now I'm going to say something scary so that you'll shit your pants 'Print where gun owners live, and those who want guns will come!', and here is another old fart that is going to speculate on what he thinks might have happened, shit now I have to remind you that yes, in fact, no real connection has been established by any reliable source on this matter"

Yes that news piece totally proved your point. Those burglars were TOTALLY going for the huge arsenal that guy was storing in his safe on the 2nd floor. They possibly could not have been searching for jewelry or cash or anything else...

You cracked the case, have some Scooby snacks.

GovtCensor - 2013-01-14

In fairness to Gmork, the map was dumb as shit for the reasons he describes.

... so well done there Gmork.

Adham Nu'man - 2013-01-14

The map was a ridiculous, stupid idea.

Gmork - 2013-01-14

Obviously they wouldnt go after JUST guns, but guns is what brought them.

Spaceman Africa - 2013-01-13

in which Gmork wants his opinions on gun ownership to be known

spikestoyiu - 2013-01-14

Five for Gmork's aneurysm.

EvilHomer - 2013-01-14

That sucks, and my condolences go out to his family and friends. I hope the FPSRussia channel makes it through this and continues to produce quality gun-related entertainment; they can have my flamethrower videos when they pry them out of my cold, dead hands.
