Severe sleep deprivation, malnutrition and lack of hygiene will do that to you whether you're taking meth or not.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2013-01-15

I've known anorexic insomniacs, and they don't look nearly as bad as these meth users do.

I guess it's all in the hygiene?

Innocent Bystander - 2013-01-15

I think meth makes your hair grow.

Or at least musses it up.

Screwtape - 2013-01-15

None of the before pictures were all that flattering, but wow.

Meth did seem to help the fatty at :52

TimidAres - 2013-01-15

Ive heard that some first time users describe their experience with meth as traveling through some kind of dark or foreboding "threshold" or "doorway." Can someone confirm this as bullshit?
Anything that gives you that kind of vibe cannot be good, and I have no idea why you would want to feel like that.

Rudy - 2013-01-15

In my experience, meth makes you feel amazing at first - full of creative energy, alert and extremely motivated (to get more meth, mostly). It's not until you've been up for four days straight that the extreme paranoia and delusion sets in that it starts to go terribly wrong. I've never heard or seen anything like a "doorway" described but then I haven't done any meth in years (thankfully) so maybe that's a new thing.

Old_Zircon - 2013-01-15

Yeah, the main problems with meth aren't the effects of the meth, they're the effects of the sleep deprivation induced psychosis that binging on meth can bring about.

Due to the sheriffs star logo in the corner, and a great cop stash, I through the guy at 1:30 was a fallen officer himself.

EvilHomer - 2013-01-15

So what's up with all the open sores? You always see pictures of meth addicts covered in bloody scabs and open sores. Is that a direct side effect of the drug, or do methheads just get in a lot of fights?

dairyqueenlatifah - 2013-01-15

I too would like to know this.

Chocolate Jesus - 2013-01-15

Those are from the crank bugs, either actual paranoid hallucinations or simply the inability to stop fixating on and picking the skin or face.

Also all the stuff Zircon mentioned -- Most of these people are just victims of hard living, the meth only accelerates their trip to the grave.

StanleyPain - 2013-01-15

Picking is part of it, but the sores mostly come from the fact that meth decreases your immune system which leads to simple little infection that you normally wouldn't notice (pinprick type stuff) getting really infected. If the person is already predisposed to acne or something, the acne will be many times worse because of the meth effects.

Crab Mentality - 2013-01-18

According to a friend of mine that used to do meth, the smoke is somewhat caustic (which accounts for the teeth). It's essentially a combination of the two- you might get a small blemish or some zits or something from smoking it, then you've got all the attention span in the world to pick at whatever tiny wounds you have.

flotsam - 2013-01-19

Meth causes blood vessels to constrict, which can lead to the weakening of these vessels over time. This obviously can inhibit the body's ability to repair itself. In addition to what others have said about picking, these conditions together can cause nasty sores.

I've also heard that staph is a culprit too, since poor hygiene is likely present.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-01-15

A good few of them look way cooler* on meth :)
*more cyberpunkesque!

Binro the Heretic - 2013-01-15

I've never understood the intention of these things. Are they supposed to scare people away from doing meth?

Because people who resort to hard drug use generally have things other than maintaining their good looks in mind.

Adham Nu'man - 2013-01-15

I think it's listening to this fucking song that has had this effect on them.

Dread Pirate Roberts - 2013-01-15

"I believe God's M.O. is to transmute evil into good and if He's active here, he's doing that now. Although our eyes can't perceive it. The whole process is hidden beneath the surface of our reality. It will only be revealed later. And even then, the people of the future, our children's children, will never truly know this awful time that we have gone through and the losses we took. Maybe some footnote in a minor history book, a brief mention with no list of the fallen." - Mike

FABIO - 2013-01-15

The most unrealistic part of Breaking Bad has always been how Jesse and Jane look way too good for long time meth users.

Blue - 2013-01-15

I would disagree. Plenty of people don't look horrible like that. It depends on the person and how much they use. People respond differently. Although, what exactly does "long time meth use" mean? I can't honestly say I know many people that didn't do it at some point, but I also don't know anybody doing it now. It seems like a somewhat self limiting drug given the way the negative effects just keep getting worse.

Adham Nu'man - 2013-01-16

Yeah I've known people with a crack habit that still functioned in society for extended periods of time.

lordyam - 2013-01-15

sorry, but there are way better before and after videos of meth users. also that song sucks -3 for the whole experience
