All Devil May Cry games are stupid adolescent shit, what else is new.

Oh no, I see a woman said something dumb. Time to gamer rage.

Adham Nu'man - 2013-01-19

Delicious gamer rage!

FABIO - 2013-01-20

It's bizarre how tone deaf people are when it comes to this series. Every time it comes up with genuinely fun and clever stuff it gets universally bashed. Then this comes out from the gameplay and storytelling minds behind Other M and everyone defends it.

Do people really see no difference between this and the cutscenes of the previous games? Is it like a Star Trek reboot thing where people praise it based solely on nerd backlash backlash?

RocketBlender - 2013-01-20

Ninja Theory and Team Ninja are two different companies. The difference is Ninja Theory has only made one game that I know of, and Team Ninja has only made one GOOD game I know of.

Sudan no1 - 2013-01-20

You're right, the two Dantes are so different. One is "omg badass cool edgy" in a Japanese way, the other is "omg badass cool edgy" in a western 4chan-reddit way. Gamers should look in them mirror to see what inspired this game. How dare the developers think that gamers enjoy strippers, profanity, making fun of Fox News, goofy conspiracy plotlines, and crude sex humor!

The gameplay looks pretty solid except for the boss fights, I thought that's what mattered anyway? Cutscenes are for fags or something right?

Sudan no1 - 2013-01-20

EvilHomer - 2013-01-20

Devil May Cry is stupid, adolescent shit!

But I appreciate the strippers.

Adham Nu'man - 2013-01-20

I enjoy the nerd backlash, but really, I enjoy all of the clips I've seen of this and the previous games on their own retarded merit. Honestly, all I see is hilariously stupid, nerdy, adolescent bombastic power fantasy shit-trips. This may be different from the previous shit, but really I can't tell them apart.
Perhaps there is some deeper more meaningful layer of meaning in the previous games that is missing from this new one, but I don't see it either way and I don't really care about finding it.

FABIO - 2013-01-20

That's what I was getting at. People honestly look at the old DMC games and see generic badass 3dgy?

That's like not seeing any difference between Army of Darkness and Ultraviolet.

Riskbreaker - 2013-01-21

To me the difference between this and the old games is quite clear. The old games were far more self-aware of what they are, this one seems to take itself far too seriously with it's "anti-establishment" story. My main problem is not story-wise, is gameplay-wise. Japanese devolpers usually know how to make action games far better than their western counterparts. These british hacks know nothing about solid combat, Enslaved and every other game they have made being proof of this. Not to mention the mediocre plataforming, AND this thing being 30fps instead of 60, placing looks above gameplay once more.

Sudan no1 - 2013-01-21

"Japanese devolpers usually know how to make action games far better than their western counterparts."

I don't think this has been true for the last ten years or so, and I like a lot of Japanese developers. The rest of your criticisms seem fair.

"That's like not seeing any difference between Army of Darkness and Ultraviolet."

Army of Darkness? Dante is basically the Space Adventure cobra guy with Jrock hair. I'll admit he's a slightly better character but they're both power-fantasy-Poochies for teenage men and fangirls.

Riskbreaker - 2013-01-21

Juvenile power fantasies? On video games? The horror.

Riskbreaker - 2013-01-21

Also, while a lot of the nerd rage is silly, it was provoked by NT being huge dbags. They dismissed the previous games, act like pretentious hipsters, and basically said anyone against this game hates change and what not. Both Capcom, NT, and the entire video game press kept doing all sorts of damage control. First the game was a reboot, then a prequel, then a spin-off. First NT was working on their own, then it turns out Capcom people were working as supervisors. In other words, this thing has been going straight to the discount bin since the first day of it's creation.

Adham Nu'man - 2013-01-21

I like Army of Darkness. The first time I saw the very first DMC I thought, "hmmm, retarded, I pass."

Maybe the original DMC was self-aware and parodic, but it's still the type of self aware parody that would require a knowledge of retarded emo anime tropes, which I don't have, so I wouldn't really have a point of reference to enjoy it from.

Perhaps that is why I find these clips so enjoyable. I have a hard time believing that whoever made this new DMC was being serious, because of how utterly stupid it is, but honestly, if they WERE indeed serious, then it's even funnier. It's like watching Glen or Glenda where the director is trying to present a serious view on Transvetites but the whole thing is so hamfisted and inept that you just can't help but laugh.

Candlejackv616 - 2013-01-21

"These british hacks know nothing about solid combat"

Played and beat it recently, and it plays like a devil may cry game but honestly, and you probably wont agree, but tighter controls...but its Devil May Cry through and through in that regard.

As for storyline lol i have to respectfully disagree on account there is a LOT of silly shit in the story as it progresses and not once did i think they took themselves "too seriously" at most they took certain elements of the story more seriously than the original in regard to stuff like Dantes history and relationship with virgil etc.. but for the most part it was really bombastic, over the top, teenage powerfantasy stuff with tongue firmly in cheek storyline unfolding just like previous games, just western.

RocketBlender - 2013-01-19

I love all the controversy and rage this game is causing by being a game with the name of another game. All of your tears are delicious!

FABIO - 2013-01-20

I guess if it was Heavenly Sword 2 people would just shrug it off as a mediocre brawler (the Fox news boss copies the very worst boss from DMC3, Jester).

But this is kind of like seeing the Mortal Kombat team make God Hand 2 with quicktime events and a Nickelback soundtrack, or Star Trek with yo mama jokes by the Transformers writers OH SHIT!!!

EvilHomer - 2013-01-20

I haven't played a DMC since the first one, and have no idea why fans are raging at it, aside from the whole "shouldn't that guy be a Jrock bishi?" thing. Is this... is this MK vs DC levels of crap, where the game isn't what you'd like but can be enjoyed by long time fans nonetheless? Or is this like full-on Command & Conquer 4 territory?

Incidentally, isn't it Wikipedia's policy to display the most current canonical iteration of a fictional character as his article's header picture? The article on Dante still shows him with his old, no longer canon look. I think maybe I should update the picture.

FABIO - 2013-01-20

I guess it makes sense if you only played the first one.

DMC1 was more proof of concept than anything else. Very rough in a lot of parts but it showed a bunch of new possibilities.

DMC2 felt like some godawful attempt to make a 3D Contra game.

DMC3 was near perfection. Hilarious cutscenes up there with Army of Darkness and great gameplay that treated combat like a Tony Hawk game (it goes from simply surviving to looking stylish as you get better). Passing it off as adolescent tripe is like saying Bruce Campbell is a wannabe 3 Stooges surfer dude; it only makes sense if you're tone deaf and wearing nerd-hate blinders, like the people who thought Equilibrium was 100% serious.

DMC4 was like the Civ3 of the series: for every improvement or good idea it had, there were five awful regressions.

Never played C&C4, but it's more like Metroid Other M. A game that appears to be a similar sequel but completely misses the point with a godawful story you can't wait to skip. The same thing happened when that game came out. There were a lot of legit criticisms but people couldn't advertise fast enough how boring and useless they were with delicious tears comments.

FABIO - 2013-01-20
