I was getting all misty-eyed until I read: "Biviano was ultimately dismissed for drunk trumpeting and public intoxication..."

"Drunk Trumpeting" would make a great name for a rock band. If they could afford more members, "and Public Intoxication" could perform with them.

I had a very proficient Jazz musician demonstrate to me how Lawrence Welk 'whitened' music. He had his jazz trio play one piece as a jazz musician would (with accents generally on off beats and syncopations to make it interesting). Then changed it just by accenting downbeats only, or even downbeats only. It sounded just like Welk.

That my friends, is how it was done.

Also, I should add that Welk hired some very capable musicians, but his audience would not like things too 'disruptive' (read: interesting) to their ears.
