These always make the balls on my hairs stand up.

"Scrotum H. Vainglorious"

her ASMR obviously manifests itself as the obsessive need to move her fucking hair out of her face

3:30 "focus on a point on my face"

"I've been focusing on the giant ski slope right in the middle, should I look somewhere else?"

I would say that this lady is pretty and probably nice. I like her nose.

Anyway, what is strange about this stuff, as Scrote pointed out, is that it has both a medical and a fetishist aspect. I suffer from pretty awful insomnia and that's how I came across ASMR, but I can also see how there are plenty of people who would pay attractive women to whisper strange scenarios to them in exchange for money.

boner - 2013-02-25

DO you just search for "help me fall asleep" or something like that, and up pop a bunch of these whispering videos?

boner - 2013-02-25

Cuz a bunch of these videos have a HELL of a lot of views.

I get ASMR. I don't have a problem explaining or understanding the pleasantness of theta wave relaxation. It's the feeling you get when you are close to hypnosis. If you've ever spaced out while watching someone do a relaxing, repetitive task, you are experiencing ASMR. If you've ever woken up from sleeping and stared out the window at the rain, you probably are experiencing the same thing. It's called "spacing out." Surely everyone has done this before.

I find it really hard to believe that the author of that Vice piece has never experienced that, but maybe that's what all that math rock and coffee at such a young age will do to a guy.

To answer boner's question, I was having some serious sleeping problems last year (it's getting better). I went onto this site called Soothetube.com, which is a gathering place for ASMR enthusiasts. I had no idea what this was about, but it opened a door to many weird submissions I've made pretty recently. Check out the site. It also changed the makeup of my recommended vids on youtube.

It's a warm sunbeam, a piss-shiver, spooning, an armload of kittens, making a new friend, the smell of grandmas cooking. IT'S CALLED BEING HAPPY, AND IT USED TO BE A NORMAL THING BECAUSE PEOPLE FELT IT AS A RESULT OF REAL LIFE INTERACTION NOT FROM STARING AT AN LCD SCREEN ALONE IN A ROOM.

The internet generation has become so sensory deprived that "ecstatic" is an alien phenomenon requiring computer simulation. YOU MANIACS *sob* *weep*

baleen - 2013-02-27

Yup. As far as lonely people using the internet for emotional relief, this movement is much healthier than, say, 60 hours of WoW a week. I can also see it being very good for people who are not able to leave their homes often because of some disability or mental problem.

boner - 2013-02-25

Better than fartin' on a twinkie, I 'spose.

This whole movement is fascinating.

Gmork - 2013-02-25

I prefer BMSR, or Tobacco.

Craptabulous - 2013-02-26

Vote up that album in the hopper, dude. We gotta take this fucking place over with BMSR. It breaks the 73Q/PoeTV video requirements. It's impossible to defend from!

TheQuakeSoldier - 2013-02-26

I have definitely experienced this phenomena. "Tingling" doesn't exactly describe it... it's sort of a warping of consciousness into a trance where you feel all-around pleasure. Sort of the opposite of blacking out, it' seems like a surge of blood into the brain.

Bob Ross videos and a pretty woman calmly speaking to me 1-on-1 are the most striking triggers of the effect. These youtube videos haven't worked for me because they're just too ridiculous.

jreid - 2013-02-26

All I hear is mouth spit. Not so much a tingling, more of a cringing feeling.
