Poorwill is typically uninformative, but his anger is aimed correctly - that comment is hella stupid. Chimps need social groups, and political hierarchies - they are cultural creatures by nature. Us giving them what they need isn't bad for them.
The alternative was a bullet in the head for no better reason than their having been forced to spend their lives as prisoners (under conditions that we'd never accept as ethical if applied to human beings). Implying this sanctuary and rescue effort isn't the correct decision is immoral and alienating.
You should really put some thought into your comments. Most people don't need to, but you should really consider it.
The fucking tragic irony about this video is how the chimps experiencing freedom and the outside for the first time is so amazing for PEOPLE to witness... 'Isn't it great that we humans can watch these chimps experience a freedom we took away from them? Aww it's so great to witness these chimps loving freedom. We're so lucky.'
These chimps must have a good union to have such a solid retirement package.
To be semi-serious, why "retire" a lab chimp once it's too old to test on? And what kind of tests do they put them through in the first place? On a cold and more practical level, isn't it easier just to have the chimps put down? But I guess that's the whole point of the Chimp Haven and they're trying to save the apes and let them die naturally and live the rest of their lives in a relatively open, comfortable, and safe place.
Probably an accident in wood shop. Or maybe it got bitten off by an alligator.
If it were relevant, he probably would have brought it up. Unless he was just so sick of people asking what happened to his finger that he didn't want to bring it up.
