Jim Carrey's a confusing one, all right. It hard for me to separate him from the vaccine stuff too. Well. He started as a gifted physical comic who then squandered his talents on fucking stupid movies. Then he cashed in his celebrity on boobs attached to someone who didn't do very well in science class (just to keep my analysis at around the 7th grade level). (And that's indeed where an interesting question arises: who's worse, an autism-vaccinator superstitionist or a Scientologist? I hope there's someone working on this problem right now.) Anyway, this was hardly bad at all and I frankly don't know what to think about the guy.

Pete: I don't think I agree. It seems quite probable that some positive number of parents skipped their kids' vaccinations just because of the anti-vax movement. Vaccines work best when the general population participates. It doesn't seem like such a stretch that someone (who wasn't Jim Carrey's kid), somewhere, got a preventable disease because of this kind of bullshit.

The anti-vaccine movement is woefully misguided but has good intentions. That's more than I can say for the NRA or Charleton Heston.

Actors say stupid shit on TV all the time, I'd say the problem is not with the actors but with the society that thinks the opinions of celebrities are of any relevance whatsoever.

I wouldn't call it a joke; it's more of a bizarre attempt to shame gun owners, or something. The amusing part of it is how you see the "little dick" nonsense with increasing frequency as it becomes more and more obvious that no new gun control legislation is going to end up becoming law at the federal level.

It's also a sign of idiocy to jump to conclusions like "anyone with any interest in guns is insecure about something and that is the only possibility".
